This is the largest plaza located centrally in Auckland, framed by the Aotea Centre and the Town Hall. Sometimes programmed in the summer months for festivals and performances. It's hard to miss this one on any Auckland visit.

Been to Aotea Square when there was a major sports promotion and been there when nothing was on. The place is alive when there is an event there and very quiet when there is not. I wouldn't call it a tourist attraction, but there is a little too see, it is clean and well kept and it is a quiet respite in the middle of the CBD.

The square appears to be a big nothing as I trudged across it to get to the theatre booking office. I can vaguely remember they used to have Friday markets there. Don't know if they still do. There is a carved Maori gate. I was on holiday

Auckland's central city square, Aotea Square is situated just off Queen Street, close to the Town Hall. On a summer's day it's an attractive lunchtime or evening venue. When it's windy and/or wet, it's not so welcoming. Some of the buildings overlooking the square are in great need of refurbishment and the square is in danger of becoming tatty.

OK it is a square but it sits between some neat buildings. It has a very interesting modern gate in it, taking off the traditional Maori ones. Actually it is not bad. You would not come here just to see it, but if your in the vicinity, pop in!
