This hotel is located in a very convenient part of Auckland within walking distance of Parnell and Newmarket. Overlooking the Rose Garden, it has an open outlook and the rooms are quiet at night. Although the hotel is rather dated the rooms are clean, tidy, and comfortable. We have stayed at this hotel a few times and every time have been very satisfied with the room, and especially the staff who have been always been helpful and friendly.

This Hotel is a "little tired" but the friendly helpful staff more than make up for it. We found the rooms clean and the bed comfortable. View over the rose gardens from the restaurant is nice whilst you are enjoying breakfast. You can walk through the rose gardens down to the beach and Parnel pools (5 minutes). We really enjoyed our stay.

We got the special 2 night cheap deal - you get what you pay for. Room was average. It was ok for us though, we just wanted a place to sleep and store our stuff while we were out and about in Auckland. If you're looking for a romantic weekend getaway - this isn't the location for it.

Taxis and buses coming and going throughout the night were really noisey. Hotel staff were not friendly (they bordered on plain rude!).

For a cheap place to crash, it'll do the job. Don't expect much more than that.

Our hosts had screwed up the reservations and we ended up being booked into two hotels which appeared to have the only rooms available in Auckland when our 15 person party arrived. The first motel was a disaster (won't even mention the name). So, by contrast, the Kingsgate seemed like luxury. Unfortunately, they never got our request for an extension of our stay one night in a addition to the group's itinerary. And they lost the request for another couple's extension as well. They were full booked but, to their credit, they put us together (after asking if that was acceptable) in a 2 bedroom villa that even had a kitchen and laundry (which we took advantage of). The breakfast, which we paid additional for was merely adequate. Also, we were told by the front desk that we would have to pay for internet but found out, just before leaving that we could have had free 20 minutes to send and receive email. All in, it turned out to be an OK experience.

We booked 2 nights stay at this property at promotional rates, so we did not have too high expectations. Location-wise, it was located out of the CBD and of walking distance to Parnell, although it was a good 10 minutes walk. It was a hotel located within the residential area.
We were given a corner garden-facing room in the opposite block and were a little taken aback when we saw the ceiling fan in the room. Nevertheless, ventilation was still alright and manageable. Beds were fine, toilet / bathroom so-so.
What else can we say with the rates we paid....
