“Room mot ready by 3pm service was terrible”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

We stayed here early December 2013. We arrived at 3pm and were told that one of the rooms was ready after we booked 3 separate rooms. There were also 3 other sets of people that were still waiting. This was a massive inconvenience as we had to leave to be out by 430. When I got in the room we had a suite... The balcony was ok but tht was it. Poor facilities and very different to other grand chancellors we have stayed in. I can certainly say I will not be returning. The whole set up was poor and clearly the staff were struggling to communicate. Breakfast looked dire so we ate out. Only positive was the location in central Auckland.

We were very disappointed with several aspects of our stay in this hotel on the weekend. Our room felt dirty, windows very filthy, furniture was broken and stained, beds left a LOT to be desired - one mattress was way too small for the bed and was just a cheap foam mattress that you get from The Warehouse! Was cold all night as only had one thin blanket on each bed! We chose this hotel for the indoor pool which also left a lot to be desired - black scum ring around every pool, flooded water drain and a nice pile of vomit on the bathroom floor which was left there for several hours despite staff being advised about it!!!!! Sadly the photos on the website are nothing like the real thing!! Will NOT be staying here or recommending this hotel to anyone!!! Staff pleasant but not enough of them!!

Room Tip: Go for recommendations NOT by website photos as we were definitely mislead!

Yes, it's conveniently located, and that triangular shape is eminently spotable in the city skyline, but it's careworn and not at all as we were led to believe from the photos. The rooms are spacious and superficially clean, but there is an odour that is a mixture of stale sweat and god-knows-what. Don't be misled by the breakfast menu in the room - no cooked breakfast exists - cereals, fruit, bread and stale croissants only - but at the same price for the previously existing cooked breakfast. Internet is $10/2hr minimum. Staff are courteous and helpful.

Room Tip: The lower floors have road noise from Hobson Street - can be busy in peak periods

We stayed here for a mother daughter trip. Excellent location, handy to the waterfront, queen st. for shopping, sky tower, civic theatre and the ferry terminal. The service was generally great but if you aren't use to traffic noise noise specify for a room off the main highway. Being from the country we found the traffic noise atrocious on the first floor, but they happily moved us rooms which was a bit of an improvement. If you don't want to be disturbed when you're getting ready in your towel etc its a good idea to put the do not disturb sign on the door as a cleaner only knocked and walked straight in. Generally my mum and i had a nice stay but probably would try somewhere else quieter next time.

Hotel Is in an excellent location if you want to be in downtown Auckland. You get what you pay for, rooms ok although there was an odour in mine which wasn't nice. Stayed in better and stayed in worse.

I stayed in this hotel for 1 night on a business trip. Tuesday 5th November, Room 112.
The best I can say is that the Hotel is cheap ($143 for a suite) and well located close to the viaduct harbour and Queen street with great vehicle access to the motorway system.
The room was dated. Threadbare carpet and smelly couches were evident. The suite was located on a corner on the first floor and was very noisy from the intersection outside the windows which had very poor seals. The curtains did not have much effect on the light levels in the room due to being hung 15cm away from the actual window!
The main area was adequate with a cook top, microwave and small fridge. The kitchenette also had a reasonable selection of cooking implements and pots.
13" 4X3 aspect televisions just do not cut it anymore in my opinion and this room had two of them. The one in the bedroom appeared to be mounted on the ceiling (or as close to it as the wall allows). Wardrobe in the bedroom was broken with the door not attached at the base.
The bathroom was clean(ish) but the main problem here was that the shower, located above a narrow bath, was under a very low ceiling beam which only allows comfortable use of the shower by clients under 5'8. The fact that the bath plug appeared to be stuck in the closed position also meant that the shower/foot bath was not great.
On the outside of the premises there is a very large sign which proudly advertises that this Hotel has a restaurant. It does not and because of that you cant even get a cooked breakfast.
Parking is available at the usual rip off rates ($30 undercover, $20 uncovered) but free parking is available on the street outside between 6pm and 8am.
Maybe this is value for money at the stated rate, but it not worth it for me.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor than 1.

Having had this booked through my work I was looking forward to a clean, decent hotel room after a long day of flights and meetings. What the reality was a cesspit. Damp smelly dated room with assorted broken items including a shower which didnt work (the shower head exploded off when turned on). Upon calling reception I was told it would be fixed the next day (which is when I was leaving) with no apology or alternative offered. I had to suggest moving me to another room which was begrudgingly done. To top it all off their "room service menu" which is in the room apparently doesn't exist according to reception when I dialled to order... rude staff, horrible rooms. Don't waste your money here.
