“Boutique Hotel in Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012

This is the most gorgeous boutique hotel in a great location. Our room was spacious and overlooked an internal courtyard that was the lounge/dining area. The rooms are really sound proof so the noise below is not disturbing. The staff are fantastic and the breakfast the next morning was really nice. Love it! It should definately by your number one choice when staying in Auckland.

Room Tip: We were in Room 210 and our friends in 211. Room 210 is a slightly bigger/better layout.

Loved every aspect of this boutique hotel in Auckland and highly recommend it! Our room had a "balcony" looking over the glassed in courtyard/lounge room, and wonderful ambience. Stunning bathroom and bedding - great attention to detail in everything. Staff were friendly and helpful and the location is perfect. Eat at the restaurant - the food was incredibly well presented and delicious and we let our very well informed waiter take us on a journey of great NZ wineries and wines - it was a real gastronomic experience...

We stayed here with two of our children aged 11 and 13. Although I wouldn't say this is a hotel that is geared towards children, it certainly caters to them well. We had a lovely suite with a pull out for the kids. Upstairs our bedroom was lovely with a fantastic bed. If you want quirky, upbeat, colourful and interesting this hotel ticks all the boxes. We ate in Kitchen, their restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. Their food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble. We met up with other guests in The Drawing Room for pre dinner complimentary drinks. What a lovely way to meet the others at the hotel. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We booked an oconnell suite which worked well with two children on a very comfortable pull out couch...

This has all the characteristics of an excellent boutique hotel: the staff are friendly and will bend over backwards to help you (even when we arrived at 6am), the rooms are quirky, memorable and beautifully appointed, and the location couldn’t be better.
Each of the rooms is a little different – they all have similar bathrooms with black round mosaics (actually they look awesome) and bedrooms with lovely fabrics in bright jewel colours and funky striped carpets. I preferred the rooms that faced outside – the ones on the other side face the covered terrace bar area.

The hotel bar is great. The cocktails are excellent and there’s a perfect location for you regardless of what you prefer – from the original bar to comfy seats by the fire. The hotel restaurant is also fantastic – great atmosphere and really stunning food. I like the tables by the restaurant kitchen.

This really is an absolute gem of a hotel – if only there were more like it.

Room Tip: Choose one of the external rooms for light and energy, the internal ones for peace and quiet

We stayed here on the night of our wedding and staff made us feel very special. We had a late check out at no extra charge and a delicious breakfast the next day, with proper coffee. The design of each room has been carefully considered and made the perfect end to our perfect day.

This place was the perfect antidote to tje otherwise grey and drab Auckland we found last December. Very well located centrally but on a relatively quiet side road, you enter the intimate lobby with its cabinets of interesting modern sculpture and jewellery for sale, then go up in the tiny lift to your room, walking across a glass bridge over the restaurant on the way. The rooms are attractively decorated in a very modern style: we stayed one night in suites which had separate living and sleeping areas conveniently divided off (or in one case up stairs) but the other night in ordinary double rooms was fine too.

On our second night (we were too late on the first) we enjoyed the pre-dinner free drinks in the drawing room, and thence into the (again stylishly decorated) restaurant. Food is modern New Zealand i.e. lots of lamb and fish on the menu, but imaginatively done with tasty but not over-rich sauces. Breakfast was huge and fresh too, and the staff dealt well with our kids need for gluten and dairy-free options.

This is somewhere I would unhesitatingly recommend: prices are pretty reasonable for what you get and it's far more interesting, stylish and higher quality than the chain hotels which make up much of the rest of the choice in Auckland.

Stylish, clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Amazingly good soundproofing, we couldn't hear anything from the busy road outside. Very comfortable beds and nice size room. Would stay there over the Hilton any day.
Kitchen restaurant is in a great setting, with a good value breakfast. High St is perfect for designer clothes shopping..............
