We stayed for a city escape - hotel is An excellent location in central city - walk to some of Aucklands best restaurants and busy bar scene. There is a lovely small bar at the hotel. The room was small and well appointed - the bed is amazing - most comfortable ever and I've stayed in plenty. Most surprising was how quiet the room was given the location. A great boutique hotel without being stuffy or pretentious. Will definately be back!

This was my third visit to Auckland; my first stay at Hotel DeBrett. The location is perfect for access to the waterfront and to the Central Business District. The property itself is comfortable and homey, and the staff attentive and very responsive to guest needs. While they are friendly and genuinely concerned, staff members are appropriate in their relationship with guests -- they are warm but not intrusive. Rooms are very comfortable and nicely laid out; a continental breakfast is included in the room rate, as is internet access. While prices may appear high to some, in relation to hotels of comparable quality and amenities Hotel deBrett is reasonably priced and quite competitive.

I would not hesitate to return to the hotel on a future trip. It is also worth noting that the hotel has an excellent reputation among locals, especially among folks who work in the hospitality industry. As a boutique hotel, one is given a feeling of being welcome and, given the small size, experience an attentive staff who personalize their service.

We stayed at this hotel twice during a recent visit to NZ.

A quirky little hotel and very arty. The owner Michelle made herself known to us during our pre-dinner drinks which was a very personal touch. Our conception due to past experience of pre-dinner drinks is that they are laid out with some canopes to enjoy at our leisure. This is not the case at hotel DeBrett! We were offered a range of pre-selected drinks, our 2 girls were offered organic cola - I had never heard of this before and it it tasted as bad as it sounds!

Guests are served by a 'host' and encouraged to engage in conversation with the host and other guests. If you are looking for anonymity during your stay, avoid the pre-dinner drinks! Dinner was good on the first night but our waiter was a little over familiar.

The rooms are well appointed and comfortable - vey nice beds.

Overall the hotel was a pleasant and different experience but I think in future, I would rather stay at a hotel that focusses on being functional and practical rather than arty and a little over-friendly.

Room Tip: If you are a family, for us the room without the staircase worked better.

I stayed here for 2 nights and found the hotel JUST FABULOUS ! The interiors are all beautifully fitted out starting with the lobby, dining room, bar, drawing room and finishing with my room. Very thoughtfully put together with interesting and stylish, furnishings and fittings - comfortable, practical, bright and luxurious. The most comfortable and dreamy bed with lush pillows guaranteed a fantastic sleep. A gorgeous bathroom (that is best kept as a surprise so I wont describe it in any detail). The climate control was perfect in my room and there was no noise from the street below. The hotel restaurant served great food, dinner on Sunday night included a complementary jazz performance - hard to top. Breakfast was perfect for me - again very well thought out selections and of excellent quality.
The staff were consistently upbeat and always there for you but totally unobtrusive. The hotel location is central with lots of alternative great bars and restaurants only minutes walk away. I used the valet parking and found it very convenient. I would not hesitate in highly recommended this hotel and look forward to staying again when next back in Auckland.

We stopped over in Auckland for 1 night and chose to stay for the first time at Hotel DeBrett. It was a nice start to an overdue vacation. Location: very central and convenient to the city centre and the harbour, but almost impossible to find a car parking spot close by, as High St is more like a laneway and parked-up on both sides. Check-in was efficient but not cold - to the contrary, the staff were welcoming, and as individual and quirky as the hotel and its decor. We stayed in a suite, and would recommend it as it was quite spacious and stylish, and the decor - designer white with a splash of striped colour across the carpet - certainly brightened things up on a cloudy, drizzly Auckland winter day. Although our 1st floor room overlooked the street, it was not at all noisy and retained a sense of privacy. Comfy bed, large pillows and warm duvet were all great. Our only quibble with the room was the temperature: we found it hard to get it to being neither too hot nor too cold, but that really was a minor matter. Continental buffet breakfast in the mornng was not a huge spread but had a sense of quality produce, so we were happy enough with it.We'll definitely look to stay here again next time we are in Auckland.
