We've just spent last Saturday night at DeBrett's; our first visit but certainly not our last. I can't find anything to whinge about to be honest as our whole speedy visit was lovely. From being shown to our room by the lovely lady on reception, to the room itself, to the handwritten 'happy anniversary' card waiting for us, to the cosy drawing room, to the delish bar snacks, to the great location, everything was incredibly well done. We stayed in a Boutique room looking out onto the street... they're not huge but ample for the 2 of us. We had a gorgeous sitting area, beautiful bathroom and the most comfortable bed ever (am buying one of the goose down mattress toppers they use... heavenly :o)
I'm a huge fan of mid century design and was blown away by the decor; apparently the owner collected all her treasures for the hotel over a period of 8 years and her passion for it is evident in every tiny detail. This place could really teach other accommodation providers a thing or two, I don't mean that everyone should try to emulate the decor as that requires a real knack but I loved the fact that the staff were really genuine; totally customer service orientated without being false or smarmy. This place is stunning but it's somewhere where you can totally relax and not feel like you've got to polish off your pearls and tiara. I loved the different areas where you could eat.. we had bar snacks in House Bar before heading to a show. Would have loved to have had enough time for a full meal in Kitchen... just had the continental brekkie in the morning before zooming to the airport but it was lovely... again, great service, attentive but not 'in your face', which I hate.
Anyway, DeBrett's is top notch but I would say if you're a fan of generic, soul-less modern decor where everything matches, then this might be wasted on you.... as for me, I'll be back :o)
