Finished your days sight seeing and need to unwind? Head down to the waterfront for a stroll. Start at the Winyard quarter and head to the viaduct... there are good restaurants are either end regardless.

Take a coat... it can get a bit nippy by the water.

Otherwise, head to the viaduct for some nightlife action on a Friday or Saturday. Bit of an older scene but the irish bars are fun (although watch out for door charges)

We spent a morning wandering around the Auckland Viaduct. We didn't go into any shops, just looked at the boats, bridges, etc. Recommend to anyone looking for something free and just to explore. We did have a nice sunny day though.

The Viaduct in the heart of Auckland, within easy walking distance from the CBD was developed for the America's Cup which Sir Peter Blake helped bring to NZ for the first time - and we're hoping that Grant Dalton and his crew can also bring it 'home' from San Francisco as the Basin rocks when these guys are in town. The choice and standard of Restaurants, Cafes and Bars are outstanding - SOUL being one of my favourites. The Council has further extended the old part of the wharf, where not so long ago Korean fishing boats 'layed' tied up like worn out old dogs, now there is a variety of restaurants and during the Rugby World Cup the entire wharf was abuzz with dancing, singing and live music. From the Viaduct there are numerous fishing excursions available, whale watching, cruising the many islands in the Gulf or hiring a luxury boat equipped with crew for a night on the water. The Viaduct feels like it could be anywhere in the world because of its cosmopolitan character - the overseas ship terminal is less than 200 metres from the Viaduct. So, come to 'our place' and join the party when the Cup comes back.

Lots of restaurants and bars. The Maritime Museum. A place where you can go for breakfast and wander around either to near by Queen street or the new Wynyard Quarter

A wonderful place to wander around sampling the food, cafes and bars. Always a busy place especially worth a visit at night when it really comes alive. Walk around the harbour and take a trip on the ferry. Great place for families, kids will love the boats.
A good day out!!
