We live in the Midlands, about as far as an Englishman can get from the sea and when we found ourselves at Viaduct Harbour, well it just about ticked all of the boxes: more yachts than you can shake a stick at, waterfront walkways and a plethora of bars, shops and attractions. As a mere, impressionable tourist it worked for me.

When you live in San Francisco, this harbor is just another harbor - it is busy, busy, busy!! Lots of ferries, some great bars, and lots of yachts - I think that it could be more visitor friendly - they have an industrial area which spoils it for me.

Start walking by the Sofitel along the quay - you can look right into all the cabins of the gleaming white super yachts. The harbour is as good as the Med -with a few rich and famous people too! Sit in a cafe on the waterside and watch the busy scene -try people spotting! Dozens of restaurants and cafes to choose from.
