Kiwi International Hotel
Ranked #36 of 66 Hotels in Auckland Central
Reviewed August 21, 2012

I'm not sure where these others stayed considering there are 2 Kiwi International Hotels in the Auckland area I would have much preferred to stay where they had instead of the miserable place on Queen street that we stayed at!! It was clear that the hotel was renting rooms to prostitutes and long term tenants the tenants were constantly arguing with the hotel staff about rent payments in the lobby, the rooms heater was on full blast when we asked that it be turned down we were brought a fan that only circulated the heat the dark haired desk attendant (female) at the front desk was rude and standoffish it's unfortunately she had scheduled shifts for 2 nights of our stay none of the staff knew anything about the area making it difficult as tourists to find good places to eat or things to do and the worst part of our stay was the 3am wake up from a sudden eviction by the hotel staff of another tenant who became violent and punched walls down our entire hallway then proceeded to bleed down the stairs and out the front door which the hotel staff ignored so we ended up leaving 2 hours early walking through blood!! Better a 5 hour wait at the airport then staying in an environment that was clearly unsafe! Clean it up your act Kiwi International!!

Room Tip: for your safety please stay at another hotel!

When a review utilizing extremist language is written we are immediately suspicious. What utter nonsense - “prostitutes” “walking through blood” “long term tenants”(average stay 2 nights) etc. etc. If guests are noisy, as occurs from time to time in all hotels, they are asked to leave. Check the other 99 reviews for a realistic assessment.

Stayed here twice. Good location and a great price. The room was warm and comfortable and the staff very helpful. Free car parking available. Only slight drawback was that the gents showers and WCs were a longish walk from the room.

Thank you for your positive review and comments. This reviewer stayed in one of our Economy rooms. Depending on which room you get some are handy to the facilities and others are a little further away. The majority of our rooms however have ensuite bathrooms so this is not an issue.

I recently stayed at the Kiwi International for two weeks while in Auckland for work. Room was small though well-appointed and made good use of the available space. Restaurant and bar won't set the world on fire but are great places to have a quiet meal and beer. You are in walking distance to many other eateries anyway. Noisy on Friday and Saturday nights but, well, you are in the heart of a city so I'm not sure why others have been complaining about this. The only negative would be some inconsiderate quests making irritating noise at all hours. Well done to the manager on duty though for telling them to STFU.

Will be back.

Thank you for your review. The average stay for Auckland hotels is 2 nights so I'm pleased we kept you happy for 2 weeks! Another guest commented to me recently that our hotel was reasonably quiet for the central city location. That's because it's set back from the main (Queen) street backing onto a park and churches on the other 2 sides.

Stay at Kiwi International was fine, nothing to write home about. The price was good and they gave us 50 MB of free WiFi. Room itself is very small, but big enough for two people, the bed, desk and TV. We were even able to re-pack our large suitcases for the trip home. Everything was clean. Good location at the top of Queen Street - don't be afraid to WALK down the hill to find the action!

Thanks for your positive review . Yes our rooms are of modest size but they are very popular given the location and price. Nothing to write home about - I agree. You'd need to spend $500+ per night in NZ to find a hotel worth writing home about!

We stayed here whilst in Auckland on holiday/business in a double room with ensuite (which had a single bed in room as well!) The hotel is in a great location- walkable distance to harbour and viaduct or 50c bus ride. Rooms are basic but if you are only sleeping there- they do the job! Would definately stay again due to the car parking, location and affordability!

we stayed here for 2 nights after a 4 day road trip Auckland-Rotorua-Lake Taupo. Since we rented a car and didnt have prior booking, upon reaching Auckland we drove around Queens Street not really expecting to find any hotel less than NZD100 but we were wrong. At Kiwi International, we stayed in a double room ensuite for NZD92 per night. The room fits two. There is a queen size bed, coffee making facility, hot shower and free internet voucher. Not sure if there's a pool though. There is a small cafe and bar but we didnt try it as we were out most of the time, shopping at Queens Street, trying out numerous cafes, visited the harbour and Sky Tower all walking distance. There are plenty of eateries including Thai, Korean, Japanese, Indian around. The Civic Centre is just 10min walk. Airport bus stops infront or you could call a taxi from the hotel to the airport. We did the latter and paid NZD35. Would definitely stay here if we ever visit Auckland again.
