Good place for price. Good location. We stayed in hotel style rooms, not the backpacker area. Might be hot in the summer, but we were there in the late winter. Front desk friendly, helpful, and efficient. Nothing fancy, but just fine.

Great spot very handy to Queen St and Wharf. The room is basic, but spacious and clean (I booked a room with ensuite). Friendly helpful staff. On the bus route for airport bus (though airport bus is not always on time!). Great value in the inner city. I will book there again next time I'm staying in Auckland.

We stayed in double en suite room in the new wing and were very pleased with the clean, comfy bedroom and wet room. Tea and coffee was available in the communal lounge downstairs, where a continental breakfast was also available. There was a great mix of adult couples, families with teenagers and backpackers at breakfast.

We also paid an extra $10 a night to use the underground secure car park which is a real bonus in the centre of Auckland if you're travelling with a hire car.

A couple of drawbacks - there is no lift, which is hard work if you've travelled over from the UK for a month with lots of luggage (we don't do backpacking!). There is also no air conditioning and the room got very hot when shut up all day. They did provide a fan but this wasn't completely effective. Also the grey walls are a bit 'institutional'!

The hotel isn't luxurious but it's comfortable and good value for money.

I had booked in here after the overlander train trip from wellington on arrival went up to the second floor room 3 draging my suitcase up the flights of stairs to find a room that was unlike anything i had ever stayed in as small the room was just big enough for the bed and op shop dressing table and side lamp if i wasnt so tried from the train trip 12 hours i would have checked out the same night in the morning went down the hall to use the bath room which was covered in mould and dirt.
I would not stay here again even for $A70.00

I stayed at Aspen Lodge for two nights and really enjoyed it. It is centrally located so getting to all the main attractions on foot was not a problem and the reception has a wide selection of leaflets containing information on the sites. Breakfast is provided in a really nice lounge/eating area and the choice was good. Vending machines are also provided near the kitchen area, along with a computer so you can access the internet -you have to buy a card from reception.
There arn't any facilites to do your own washing but they have a brilliant service which is reasonably priced where if you give them your washing before 10pm, it will be washed and dried by the following morning!
There is also a secure carpark which you pay a small amount for.
The room overall was really nice, with a large ensuite bathroom and television and we didnt really hear any noise at night as our room was at the back of the lodge.
The only problem we did have was that when my friend and I arrived we found that they had allocated us the wrong room - we requested a twin room and only had one double bed, but they quickly changed our room for another one when we went back to reception.
When we go back to Auckland we will definately stay here again!

Aspen House is a great to place to stay if you're on a budget. Highly recommend getting the room with a bathroom. The staff is extremely helpful. Breakfast isn't so great. Location is not too bad if you know the shortcuts. This place is located on a hillside so the climb back to your room can be a bit tiring. Can be a bit noisy at night.

This is a great value little place. Really clean room with well thought-out decor, however if you're looking for customer service, you'd best look elsewhere.

When we asked if the hotel had a lift, the receptionist looked at us as though were were idiots. I got the same response when I asked if they had any vending machines for bottled water.

Anyway, on the positive side, it was very cheap. More a hostel than a hotel really, but very central.

Also, beware the Thai food on K Road. Brix was a nice little cafe/bar, but it took it's toll!
