“Great value and close to the attractions”
Reviewed May 5, 2012

Arrived at the Hotel after picking up a jucy rental car and right from the start the staff were great and very helpful. Had an ensuite room and yeah it might be an old revamped building but the room was huge and well appointed for the money. Having parking in the basement was a real bonus although we were able to walk easily to the attractions like the Viaduct, Vector Arena and the Sky Tower. Would definitely stay there again

We arrived at Jucy Hotel at 2am and the receptionist was very helpful and helped us book in within minutes. I was extremely impressed with the value for money for the rooms at the place. There were four of us and we were able to get a 4 person room for only $20 a night each which was pretty impressive.

The hotel has a cool, casual vibe about it which made us feel comfortable and while we spent almost zero time in the hotel apart from sleeping, the place was always clean and the bathrooms were very hospitable with a good pressure shower (something that i hard to find at hostels or backpackers that i have been to).

We went up to Auckland from Wellington for 2 days to catch the NZ breakers home final at Vector Arena. If you are ever going to an event at Vector Arena and need cheap accommodation this is the place to go. It is literally within a 5 minute max walk. Also a tip is to go to the burger place "The White Lady", about a 3 or 4 minute walk down the road on Commerce Street after 6pm for the best burgers in Auckland.

While having to pay for wireless and even the desktop computers for internet was a little disappointing, that is really grasping for straws and we were very happy with the stay. One minor complaint that may not have anything to do with the hotel itself, was that there was an awful smell outside the hotel for the duration of our two day stay. It was actually revolting and one time we realised we didn't remember to pick up something minor at a store once we had got back to the hotel room but didn't bother going back so we didn't have to pass through the smell. But as I said this may have been a one off occurance and may not have been any fault of the hotel.

Overall very happy with the stay and a great value for money!

Hi there

Thanks so much for taking the time to post feedback on your recent stay with us.

It’s great to hear that you enjoyed your stay, you found our staff friendly, our rooms clean and the price of our rooms affordable.

Just to explain the unpleasant smell this actually comes from the Ginkgo Tree which is located in the park opposite our hotel. This tree produces Ginkgo Nuts during Autumn and these have a very unpleasant smell to them which is what you would have experienced.

Again, I’m glad to hear that you had a fantastic stay with us while you were here in Auckland and
we look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Cheers
Lucy xx

We arrived at the Jucy hotel after a gruelling 28 hour journey and although our room wasn't quite ready we were delighted to be told that we'd been given a free upgrade to an en-suite room even though we'd booked one with a shared bathroom.

Overall the hotel was nice, very clean and tidy with a young funky vibe about it. It was quiet at night even though it was clearly aimed at the younger traveling crowd so there's no worries on getting a good nights sleep.

Staff were helpful and friendly and gave us some good advice on nearby bars.

Not sure about the purple and green colour scheme but don't let that put you off. It's good value for money and a great place to stay especially if you're new to the backpacking scene.

Booked at Jucy Rental (when picking up campervan). Was midwinter there, and nice to have roof over heads for the first night, Clean and warm enough room, with 'en suite'. Helpful staff. Not plush, but that wasn't expected. Ate outside, so not experienced kitchen.

Great location, close to the main street, and good for the harbour and 'Sky Walk'. Nice cafe's and shops nearby. Away from the main centre, it was a decent walk to the parks and National Museum(?)

I booked this hotel online, rooms looked clean, I thought this was a hotel. When I arrived at the hostel, it smelt damp on the floor I was staying on. Room was nice and clean which was good however, the kitchen was appauling, there is 1 fridge to store everybodys food. 4 hotplates and no oven to service around 50 rooms. I will not be staying here again and I think Jucy should list that this is a hostel and not a hotel.

Hi there

Thanks so much for taking the time to post feedback on your recent stay with us.

I’m glad to hear that you found your room was nice and clean, however I do apologise that you were not completely satisfied with all aspects of your stay.

The JUCY Hotel does have two sides – one side offering basic backpacker rooms with shared bathrooms and the other offering hotel style rooms with private bathrooms. I do apologise if you felt that this was not made clear when you made your booking. On our own website we do our best to make it clear to customers when booking that there are two options and we specify on the booking pages if the rooms are on the hostel or hotel side of our accommodation.

I’ve passed all of your feedback, along with your comments regarding the kitchen facilities onto our hotel manager so they are aware of your feedback. Feedback is very important to us as it helps us to continually improve the service we offer our customers, so thank you.

Cheers

This was a stay I booked for my mother while visiting Auckland for two nights (en-suite double). The main problem was that sewage leaked from the en-suite's toilet in the first room, and that the paper-thin walls let in all the noise from the reception area. She was relocated for the second night, and staff apologized. While that was appreciated, it simply was not enough to offset the quality of the stay. The en-suit double rooms have a view of a wall, there was also a construction going on in the narrow space between the walls. The place is trendy, with excellent location, bit noisy as you would expect a hostel to be, but the price is just too high for the quality they offer in the en-suite rooms.

Hi there

Thank you for your feedback.

Firstly let me apologise for the inconvenience your mother experienced while staying with us recently in Auckland. I can appreciate how having to move rooms and dealing with construction would have been frustrating.

I’ve checked with our hotel manager who remembers your situation and recalls the issue with the toilet. I just wanted to clarify that after getting a plumber in to have a look at the room it was a cracked pipe causing the leak, which was replaced and fixed straight away. It is pleasing to hear that once alerted to the issue our staff dealt well with the situation and apologised for the inconvenience caused.

We have recently had maintenance done on the exterior of the building and unfortunately as we are a 24/7 hotel there is no “perfect time” to do this. We were as strict as possible with the tradesmen carrying out the work to minimise the inconvenience for our guests as much as they could.

It’s great that you found our location great and our accommodation trendy. I do hope that overall your mother enjoyed her time with you in Auckland.

I appreciate all of your comments and I can assure you these have all been passed onto management.

Cheers
