This is a nice museum. Beware that you would have to leave purses and backpacks in a locker. It was a bit disconcerting to leave your items, but it was all perfect. (Maybe I’m paranoid. I wouldn’t leave my stuff with a teen in America 😬). With that said I had to return three times to get stuff from my bag.
If you could download the self tour audio before you get there it would be easier. There is so much to see and read, the audio guide was worth having.
The museum is on a hill and the views are nice.

It was very busy and we were on a quick trip through. Focused on the volcano house and putting you in the scenario of a new volcano forming in the harbour. The holocaust display was very interesting and kept looking at the pictures and could not take my eyes away.

This was a great museum showing the Auckland contributions to the world wars, but also including some really nice history about the islands - formation and Maori culture. I had no idea how extensive the NZ involvement was in those two wars.

We are currently living in Auckland and have NZ licenses with our Auckland address on it which means we got free admission to the museum which made it all the more enjoyable
