We booked a deluxe marina room at the Sebel through Wotif for one night's stay in Auckland but were so impressed that within five minutes of arriving, we asked for another night. We had a large suite, with modern furniture, a well appointed kitchen, two balconies with sea views and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. Room service came promptly and was delicious. The bathroom was superb and also contained a washing machine and dryer.

The downside was the noise. Although we were on the 6th floor, we still got lots of noise until late from the bars and restaurants below the Sebel - but then we discovered the iron shutters, which helped a lot.

All in all, we were very impressed with the room, location and local amenities.

We stayed in room 608 at the Sebel Suites, 2 Jan- 7 Jan, and were thoroughly pleased. We chose to upgrade from a studio to a marina suite (okay, an extra NZ$100 per night) but the cost was well worth it. Floor to ceiling windows facing the harbour; housekeeping staff that was willing to adjust to our schedule (we tend to sleep very late on holiday); excellent room service; etc. All around a wonderful experience and looking forward to staying here once again this summer.

Had a two night stay in suite 106. The suite was very nice but unknown to us is sited directly above the Hotel waste disposal system. The first night we were kept awake most of the night as the machine seemed to be in constant use with loud crashes and rumbles directly below us. We complained but nothing was done and we were kept awake again on the second night. We were glad to leave.

My husband and I have stayed in a few Auckland hotels and we found the Sebel was probably top on our list.
It even out ranks the Hilton for us. The location is spot on, you would find it hard to get any closer to the viaduct area. The room rates are very reasonable, from our experience.
The rooms are tastefully decorated, with nice art and modern furnature. The bed was big and firm. the kitchen area had everything. A dishwasher, oven stove elements etc. We had a veiw of the harbour (although we did request this when booking) The lounge area had two couches and a stereo/ cd player, large dining room table. (we had a corner marina rooom)
All the popular resurants are just outside entrance and everything else is a short walk. Did hear resturants setting up in the morning but thats what you expect when staying in a busy area.
This place was perfect for entertining friends. And carpaking prices were good for Auckland.
All in all a great, modern, warm place to stay in the heart of the viadut. The only bad bit was the hangover the next morning, but that was self inflicted.
p.s. Don't complain to staff if your a light sleeper and the smoke alarm light is flashing in the room at night. It is the law and it is for your safety if the place burns down. take some tape and cover over the litle flashy lights, then remove in the morning.
(hope the guy next to me when I was checking out reads this, you were extramly rude ranting and raving about such a silly thing.)

Hotel rooms were great, restaurants below were excellent, only problem we had, we were charged a full night for an 8am checkin, and also charged $125 for a 4 hour late check out. front desk staff were unwilling to do anything for us. This left a bad taste about the hotel. Next month we are going to try the Hilton a block away with water on both sides of the hotel. Check out the ice bar!

Good business traveler quality hotel. Our one bedroom suite included a kitchenette and a great view of the waterfront area. The hotel is very centrally located near the America's Cup yacht basin. Service and room quality was good - very clean, well-maintained. Restaurant Mecca was very good for breakfast. Portafino dinner restaurant not up to par service-wise although food was of good quality. Inattentive waiter disappeared for 20 minutes at a time.
Delivered all food -appetizers, entree at same time -then seemed baffled as to why this might be a problem
