We arrived in Aukland from a cruise the hotel was less than 5mins by taxi if we hadnt had our luggage with us we could have walked. The hotel overlooks the harbour, staff really friendly couldnt help you enough. Room excellent even had a washer and dryer so was able to get laundry done at no extra cost. Location excellent lovely bars overlooking harbour, the locals were so friendly and the food excellent, plenty of shops just off the red bus route for tours everything you need to get your holiday started. Really enjoyed our stay if i had known how beautiful Aukland was and how good the sebel suites were would definately stayed longer

This place is clean enough and the service, that is more or less restricted to the check-in desk, is OK too.

Our room overlooking the harbour was very noisy. There are lots of bars down there where people are yelling and generally getting boozed up. The windows are flimsy and the air conditioning ineffective. If you open the window for air, the noise is unacceptable.

You might as well go down there and join the party, which goes on to the early hours most nights.

Our room was a small suite, the sitting area was rather cramped.

Meals are served in a cafe that is just outside the hotel, by the waterfront. This proved to be a little better than others we tried in the area, but that's not saying much.

The Hotel facilities are basic by European standards, but somewhat better than many NZ places have to offer.

Room Tip: See if there is anything available that does not overlook the harbour, although traffic can be a problem too.

Stayed here overnight on the 25th of January, before getting on a cruise ship the next day. I stayed in a Marina Deluxe One Bedroom Suite, with a separate lounge, bedroom, bathroom. You never go short of space. And the balcony is very nice on a nice evening just to relax and unwind. Modern decor and colors, add to the relaxing experience. There is only one bad point about The Sebel, the noise from the bars below at night is noting short of irritating, when you are trying to sleep. I am sure with a little negotiation with the bars below, this problem can be fixed. And yes I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Coner Marina Deluxe One Bedroom Suite

Suite: with Viaduct view = no external sound= excellent
All you need inside the suite also washer and dryer.
Location: Excellent !!!!
Restaurant inside: No, but you can sign with your room number in places around it.
Service: very helpful.
Wonderful stay.
The flaw: NO wireless internet inside your room, and in the lobby was hard to get with my iPad.
BUT: The Hotel Manager sent me a letter informing they will correct this issue very soon.

Room Tip: Room with the Viaduct view.

This hotel faces in part over roads and in part over the viaduct basin (marina) and harbour. We had a pleasant room with a separate seating area, kitchen facilities and small balcony with a side view of the marina. It was spoilt for us by noise from a so-called champagne bar which played loud music, kept its doors open and put out tables in a small area at the hotel's harbour entrance. Both nights there was loud noise - screaming shouting and foul language - from drunken people in this area, at its worst between 12.00 midnight and 2.40 am. Quiet after that. You expect some noise at a hotel in this location, but not at these levels. We complained - the managers were apologetic - but they need to sort this out. Do not stay on the marina side unless you are sure they have or you intend to be up drinking until 2.40 am yourselves.
