Made the effort to go on a scorching hot day - what a little gem. NZ$14 for an adult was well spent and could have stayed there even longer.
Travel back on a nostalgic trip to see old cars, motorbikes, buses, fire engines, technology - you name it there is a chance it is there somewhere. Wander through a victorian village and see how they lived and make sure you have a camera with you - if only to take pictures of the old stuff - it really does jog the memory. Lots to do and see for the kids too.
Restaurant on site is sensibly priced although there are places to take a picnic (which with kids may be a better option). There is a large grassy park adjacent if preferred. Staff there are very helpful, with (for NZ) a high emphasis placed on H&S which is great to see for a change.
The ticket also gets you into the aviation museum - a 10 minute trip on an old tram (included in price also) where there are planes from WWII - including a lancaster - fantastic. There is NO restrictions in taking photos of the planes unlike someother places who want you to buy a guide book so another massive plus.
No parking at MOTAT itself but parking is available at the aviation museum or across the main road from MOTAT which is free on weekends as you can use the Mon-Fri bus lane legally!
An annual, return as many times as you want pass, is also available which would be excellent value as new things are added all the time.
A fantastic day out and well worth the entrance money alone.
