We were once again left feeling stung by the high admission price to get into the aquarium (this seems to be the 'norm' in the north island) of almost $40 per adult. We didn't find it great value for money although there certainly were positives to the visit. We enjoyed the antarctic explorer display and the optical illusion entrance tunnel was very cool! We caught the stingray show which was fine, but the highlight was certainly the penguins. I've never seen penguins so clearly and up close before and it was certainly a treat (although slightly disturbing as it was eerily similar to the enclosure shown in 'happy feet'). Apart from that, we were pretty underwhelmed by the other things on offer, half of the moving tunnel was murky and cloudy (not sure why) and it looked dreadful. The seahorse exhibit and fish displays were pretty sparse. Good little play type kids section but it was overrun by children. Also, I had the worst sushi in my life at the cafe.... Word of warning, don't get the sushi!!!! I would recommend purely for the pengiun experience but I really feel that they are asking far too much in admission costs, $20 would be more reasonable.
