“Penguins and sharks and many other sea species”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2013

I hopped off the Hop On, Hop Off Explorer Bus from Auckland at the Aquarium, where I spent a couple of hours.
I found it very interesting, and there were two areas I enjoyed most: the penguins in their large artificial snow and ice place and the tunnel with plexi-glas to walk under several sharks swimming around. I was told of a concept which I found very positive: the sharks are kept there for a short time and then released to where they were caught.
For those of us who live inland, away from the sea, the aquariums should be a must; and this one is an excellent choice to see and learn about marine creatures.

“So So”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

Went for a visit here as I hadn't been for 10 years! Last time I visited we got to drive around in this little car which was really interesting & fun. Was disappointed to see they had "upgraded" and taken this out.
Scotts Hut portion is really interesting and the animals they did have there were fascinating.. but there was a couple of school groups there that were EXTREMELY rowdy and ruined it for everyone! They were clambering around and yelling as kids do and it really destroyed the tranquility of the place. And to top it off one of them decided to have their school assemby just in front of the gift shop so you had to step over kids just to get in!
A bit overpriced too. $36? really?
Although I do have to say.. I saw one kid lie down on the revolving walkway and look up at the fish above him... I was itching to do the same ....

“Fun watching the penguins”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Just visited the aquarium with my pre-teen son, who was interested in both the exhibits, penguins and sea life. Interactive tanks were ok, penguins were great to watch. Large rays were good and seeing people in with the sharks was good. Parts are looking a little dated. Worth a visit, but would not necessarily rush back.

The actual animals their are pretty good, but the overall impression pretty much, this is a bit pointless and wow the this place is way over priced.

“Go to see the Penguins!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

Visited with the family in Dec 2012.

Took a taxi from downtown cruise terminal to Kelly Tarlton's, cost was abt 25 NZ dollars.

The place was interesting and the kids enjoyed themselves. It does look slightly run-down at some parts though.

Penguins were the key attraction. Personally, I found Scott's Hut very interesting. The rest of the exhibits were ok, not fantastic.

We completed the visit in an hour, and took the complimentary Shark Bus back into town. There was a huge crowd waiting at the town pick-up point for the bus! (The bus only seats 21)
