“Really nice zoo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2014 via mobile

Auckland zoo isn't the biggest zoo you will ever go to but it's really nicely set out and really nice to spend a few hours wandering around. It's a shame when we were there the lions and meerkats weren't there (my two favourite things) it would have been nice to have been told before entering.

Decent range of animals and nice to see good sized enclosures for them.

I don't know if it was just because we went early afternoon but most of the glass to the enclosures was filthy so wasn't the easiest to get photos of some of the animals.

All in all a good afternoon out.

After visiting the Pasifika Festival in Western Springs Park, we visited Auckland Zoo for a few hours. Plenty of the usual animals you would see at Zoos in wonderful surroundings. Disappointing no elephants were present although did see tigers, giraffes (and their young), zebras, rhino, huge hippos, birds, meerkats, monkeys, orangutans, red panda, wallabies, emus, penguins and more. Cafe was well set out and food good.
Great way to while away a few enjoyable hours.

“A good few hours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2014

This is certainly not the biggest zoo we have been to but they do have a lot of the "main" animals in that they have lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, hippos etc. There is only a small car park next to the zoo which was full so we parked a few hundred yards away but the walk wasn't far and it was free to park. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and the noise we could hear as we approached the zoo was lots of screaming and shouting children, however it wasn't too bad inside and most of the kids seemed to be playing on the play area and were controlled by their parents.
We were there from about 2pm and decided that we would look for refreshment on our way round the zoo, but having missed the main café on the way in, none of the others were open which was slightly disappointing. Luckily there are water fountains en route or else we would have been parched!
The highlight of the visit for me was watching the spider monkeys on their island - they are mad climbing the trees and appearing to fall back down again but always controlled falling!
The walk through aviaries are also good but you have to stand a bit and wait to see the birds; if you go through too quick then you probably miss them.
We didn't see a kiwi which was slightly disappointing but it was very dark in the exhibit (to be expected given that they are nocturnal) and it gives us a reason to go back.
We were very impressed with the size and layout of most of the animal enclosures and the zoo seem to have made the most of the limited space available. We were there for a couple of hours but I can see that a family could spend longer there especially with young children.

“Miss you, Kiwis :-)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2014

Had a lovely day in Auckland Zoo, the main purpose to be is to see the Kiwis, which I have never seen and it is only in New Zealand. They are cute and timid . The Zoo designed very well, service is good, Zoo stuffs are very friendly.
