This was a spur of the moment decision to go to the zoo. We went on a Sunday and arrived at 10.30am. The main car park was full but we parked on the main road and then realised there is also overflow parking a further 100m down the road. Quick and easy to get in and get started. Lockers are at the entrance if you don't want to carry around lots of bags (packed lunches).
There were plenty of animals and I liked the way it was set out, however it wasn't as easy to get around as Wellington zoo. More signage would have been helpful. Some of the shrubbery needs cutting back in various places e.g. the lions. When listening to the keepers talking, large crowds gather and it is difficult to see especially for young children. If it wasn't so busy you will be fine. The keepers were very informative and did give lots of great educational information, well worth listening to. Take the time to be patient and wait for the animals to come out and you will be rewarded. We stood at the tigers for 10 minutes and saw them come in and out lots of times, whilst others turned up, looked, saw the tigers weren't there and just left!
Food was as you would expect, 3 different eating places all looked good, the food we had was tasty. Picnic benches available for those who brought a packed lunch. All in all a good day, we finished at 2.45pm and had taken 20 minutes to each lunch. (so allow 4 hours)
