WE had a fantastic afternoon on the Ted Ashby. It was a great experience to be able to help raise the sails. The volunteers onboard are very knowledgeable and welcoming.

When in Auckland, you should not miss the NZ Maritime Museum. The are many exhibits, but among the two most prominent are the yacht that won the America's Cup, a competition now sadly degraded by legalisms. The other prize exhibit is an inter-island sailing ship, a workhorse rather than a thoroughbred. As an island nation, New Zealand has an intimate relationship with the sea.

Took a large group of students for an educational tour. Leichelle was most welcoming and accommodating, enthusiastic and informative, let the group see the Noon Day cannon firing before resuming the tour. The group all seemed to find something that intrigued them, from the Pasifika migrations, the European arrivals and maritime stories.

This little gem was something I had walked past many times until I decided to actually go inside. It's free for Auckland residents and took a leisurely hour or so to walk around. Some really interesting exhibits around the naval and maritime history of New Zealand.

Visited here with some friends who live in Auckland, there was plenty to see, interesting exhibits and information about the first New Zealanders who arrived from Polynesia, information and exhibits right through the ages, well displayed and laid out, there was actually a ships wheel from a ship which was broken up in our home town in the UK.
