This hotel is great. Beautiful clean rooms with soft beds.
We got upgraded to a suite since they were fully booked.
The staff is courteous and helpful.
The location is great with the tower nearby where you can go for the skywalk.
We stayed only for one night in transit but neverhless it was really nice. Would strongly recommend considering the value for money.

Amazing hotel with spectacular features. We had the honeymoon suite, n the hotel is very nice n cozy. they have the auckland tower/the skycity tower. we had done this thing called skyjump which is the highest in the world. a little expensive for that but its pure adrenalin rush... its one of the most craziest adventure u'll have. i left my passport my mistake in the hotel n i went to queenstown but the staff was very helpful to send it over to my hotel carefully.. cozy rooms with a comfortable bed. Its located in the heart of the city with convenient stores and lots of shopping for long stay guests. it even has a bank n money exchange in the hotel.

I've stayed here a few times on business and it's been a perfect spot. I visited this time just for a night with the family en route to Waiheke Island.

We got a fabulous deal from the internet. Room plus valet parking, buffet breakfast for 2 and even a couple of Easter eggs thrown in on arrival. We had 2 interconnecting rooms which worked well and buffets always go down well with the teenagers.

The hotel itself is very simple but comfortable for a short city stay. No I wouldn't come here on my honeymoon but for business or sightseeing it's a prefect spot. The rooms are a reasonable size but the bathroom is fairly compact. However, no complaints it all works well.

The location is great and the concierge is always very helpful. The valet parking works really well and always way cheaper to get a rental car at the airport rather than taxis which are very expensive here.

The food is always very good (especially with Dine downstairs). The breakfast was well laid out and had a great variety (well everyone in my family was happy with it).

All in all a great spot and always check the internet for last minute deals.

We stayed here for the first couple of nights of our honeymoon - mainly to get over the jetlag and to see a bit of Auckland (which has quite a lot to offer, but isn't the reason we came to NZ).

The hotel's staff were uniformly helpful, efficient and cheeful. Check-in was easy, and our room was very clean, adequately spacious and had a lovely bathroom. It even had a view of the people jumping off the SkyTower onto the target below.

The hotel's location was great for getting to all the main parts of Auckland, and the ferry terminal. The free city-centre circular-route bus stopped just outside the hotel, and is a great way to familiarise yourself with the centre on your first day.

However, was this a spectacular hotel to start a honeymoon? Probably not - it's more business-focused. If you're travelling for leisure purposes, you can probably get better value elsewhere as it was quite expensive compared to other hotels in Auckland.

Right in the City Centre and only a 5-10 min walk to the harbour (ferry Building). The room was very nice and spacious. The Hotel itself is new, clean and a very pleasant place to be. There is a small gym with a pool and Sauna available in case you want work-out (complementary). We did not try the breakfast buffet due to time constraints, even tough it looked tempting.

The Skycity Grand Hotel is a fairly good hotel in a central location. The rooms are large and nicely decorated and the bath rooms are also nicely appointed with a separate shower. The rooms facing west (the one with the lowest number from 01 to approximately 10) on the highest floors (mine was on the 17th floor) you will enjoy a beautiful view of the City, the Sky Tower and harbor. That is not the case for the rooms to the east which are facing another hotel (Crown Plaza) across Albert St. The breakfast buffet is excellent albeit pricy and the staff is efficient. Wire and wireless internet is available but is relatively expensive (20NZD per 24hours) and comes with a limit of 100Mb beyond which you are charged addiotionally

My main gripes are the insufficient closet space in the room, the fact that my room was seldom made before noon during my stay and the lobby which seems to have been designed by an architect from the soviet time: grand with lots of marble but totally impersonal and cold.

The Skycity ‘Not-so-Grand’ as they should call it has the potential to drive a business person/group organiser to despair. The key problem here is the front desk. Staffed by a group of people ranging from incompetent to down-right surly, after day five we found it best to walk straight past and deal only with the very helpful concierge desk. One some occasions members of our group crossed the road to the sister hotel to get help from their reception desk, the communication difficulties were so extreme. The most ridiculous calls were made to my room at all hours by the front desk, usually prefaced with “Who’s that?”..you made the call darling, you should know! Calls from outside the hotel were rarely, if ever put through correctly, voice mail was a disaster. Business contacts were frequently told I was not staying there at all.
The other problem area is with housekeeping, public areas were ignored completely, we photographed a cotton tip and a used Band-Aid/plaster in the hall and lift that soon became good friends, the former was in residence for a grand total of 13 days!! In the room dusty glass shelves, dirty carpets and hairs in the bath on arrival, male housekeeping staff who knocked once and barged right on in, not once but regularly and an irritating procedure where if you don’t put a sign on your door, your room is not made up at all; very frustrating if you rush out to a meeting and forget. The spa was efficient and has a few top level therapists including a Hungarian girl who is probably the best facialist I have experienced. Location is in a not-very-nice part of downtown Auckland, we were treated to the sight of homeless people shooting up in the next street, close to the City Mission. Restaurants within the Skycity complex are hit and miss, room service food was good, but the Observatory was very poor. Once again the problems were mainly with staffing and bad attitudes. The foyer of the hotel presents well, the rooms are the right size despite design faults galore, just get some decent management who are willing to train staff properly and take pride in what they do….at the moment this establishment barely comes close to a 3-star.
