I was booked into Quay West by my office in Auckland and I was very happy with the decision. My room on the 10th floor had a great view overlooking the harbour, if only they could of demolished the HSBC building to give a better view! It was also in front of the Visa countdown of the number of seconds to the rugby world cup which became an obsessive thing to check each morning!!!
The rooms are very spacious and kept very clean and tidy, though the maid was a little over zealous and took my phonecard. The kitchen area is well equiped and it is fantastic to have a washer and dryer in your own little utility room. Can't really think of a negative, although the lack of a decent hotel bar (they have an 'executive lounge area' that nobody ever went in) is probably all I can think of.
Although parking was expensive at $20 a day, they gave me a reserved spot for the two weeks which was much appreciated as parking was at a premium.
Perfect position for all the bars and restaurants of Viaduct Quay and Princes Wharf. Also well placed for the best steak in Auckland at the Angus Steak House (not to be confused with the dire London restaurants of a similar name) about 200 yards up the road. Doesn't look the most stylish place but you must go if you're a steak lover!
I would have no problem in staying here again and highly recommend it for a stay in Auckland.

Stayed in this hotel on our first and last nights in Auckland. Location and a harbor view were our most important features, and we don't get too concerned with the minor details of some of the hotel reviewers on TA.

I was really surprised by the size of the room, it being our first NZ hotel. That first night we made use of the bathtub AND the washer/
dryer, and enjoyed having the little kitchen and separate living room seating area. Not sure if all rooms have harbor views, and perhaps i wouldn't be as happy if we'd been on a lower floor, but I loved being able to look out from our 15th floor (first night, great view) and 20th floor (last night, even better!) balconies, and wave to the cruise ships while wearing our hotel-issued bathrobes.

For us (early 30s), the location was great as it was a short walk to the bars/restaurants of Princes Wharf and Viaduct Harbor, and the ferrys. Not a bad walk to Queen St. shopping and the SkyTower either,
but those were less our focus.

Staff was curteous and pleasant, and helped arrange a SuperShuttle to the airport for us. Only complaint is that the internet service in the Executive Lounge doesn't seem to be able to pull up any website with a HTTPS, which was a problem for us because we were trying to research the traveler benefits on our credit cards before renting a car (yes, we should have done this back home but we forgot!). And the fact that I seem unable to pronounce "Quay" the way you're supposed to - can't really blame that on the hotel, though!

All in all, i would highly recommend this hotel for people who are like me.

Quay West Suites were more than/ bigger than we expected... there was never a problem for the reception staff to help even when we changed our booking from 2 to 4 people on check-in. The staff were all very friendly and young Chris was exemplary in his dealings with us. The suites were a great size for family or just as a couple. Very clean, great laundry facilities, well stocked kitchen. The veiws are great over the harbour etc, the location is perfect for walking around town or looking at the city sights or looking for some night life a stones throw away at the Viaduct... trendy bars and eatery's with a great atmosphere . We would recommend Quay West Suites to anyone wanting a city break or as a stert and end to an around New Zealand trip.

Very large two bedroom suite which was comfortable and nicely equipped. Great views across the city from the balcony. Nothing was too much trouble and we would definitely stay there again if we returned to Auckland. We did not eat in the restaurant so have no idea how good or bad it was.

The hotel has a great location, being no more than a couple of blocks from the harbour and on the edge of the city. Great views from several rooms.

The two bedroom apartment we stayed in appear to be almost new and was spotless every day.

Pleasant gym and pool with sauna and jacuzi.

Restaurant on second floor was reasonable although with the location of the hotel there are several other restaurants within walking distance.

Only small complaint is that the desk staff did not know an awful lot about Auckland. On 3 occasions we asked for information or locations and on each occasion we were given wrong information (Including what time the service was in the cathedral. Firstly they did not know where the cathedral was although ot was no more than a couple of blocks away and when we arrived it was closed, and had been for some time, as the roof was being repaired.)

Apart from this - highly recommended.
