“Great Location and Good Rooms”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

Prior to staying here, I had read the mixed reviews on this hotel and was prepared to find it less attractive than the hotel's website description. Boy, was I wrong! The rooms were more than I expected and were well-appointed. Sure, they building looks like it was built in the 60's, however, the interior was modern and, because of the building's age, the rooms were definitely not cramped. The service was always professional and friendly and I would, without reservation, stay there again next time I visit Auckland. As for location, it was perfect, directly across from the quay for the cross harbour ferry to Devonport and within easy walking distance of the Britomart bus and train station as well as the shops and casino.

I stay here with my netball team each year. We love the location - walking distance to Vector Arena (for the netball), the viaduct (for the differenet restaurants) and Queen St (for the shopping). We stayed on a Thursday night on the 6th floor and while there was a little road noise outside, nothing to really disturb us. Yes the rooms are dated, but not as bad as some of the reviews I've just read! Our rooms were clean, tidy and facing the waterfront, with the beds very comfortable. We found all the staff to be friendly. We will be back again next year.

The position is just about the best in town, near the station, the ferries, the shops, the Viaduct Harbour, in fact near everything. Parking is below. Easy. You can watch the ferries come and go, the ships go about their business, the activity on the street, and look across to the North Shore and Devonport. What more could you want? Oh, yes, a good nights sleep. Well we got that too, and the went down for a wonderful breakfast. Hotels seldom look so good.

Stayed one night here. The hotel is in real need of an upgrade but we understand this is about to happen. Whilst saying that everywhere was clean and neat. The staff were friendly and helpful. We got an upgrade of room without even asking and they were happy for us to be late checking out so that we could watch the America's cup racing to the end.
Disappointing points about the bedroom were that although the sheets and pillowcases were clean they did not appear to have been ironed and there was some noise, presumably from the bars over the road. The windows were double glazed so I guess there is not much more the hotel could do about that. The bed was extremely comfortable.
The breakfast was fine. We were late going down because of the racing but there was still plenty of choice- just the scrambled eggs looked bit iffy and we didn't like to ask for fried ones as we were so late. They had a special on so breakfast price was very reasonable.

Room Tip: All room overlook the harbour which is great. We were on the 8th floor which gave us good views.

Stayed here with a friend in August for my birthday, we had purchased a deal off Grabone which was o k, but would never pay full price or chose to stay at this hotel any other time. It was just convenient because of the location as we were out in the viaduct. The rooms were grotty and old, very disappointed. Horrible decor and linen, really needs to be updated for freshened up look. Shower was dirty and dripping constantly. We had dinner at Tactics restaurant, it was adverage much like something you'd throw together at home. The hotel is definitely not sound proof, you can hear every bag, crash and voice! I had to yell at people at 3am to be quiet as they were out in the corridors yelling and crashing around. Another thing which wasn't good at all were the lifts, they were so small and people piled in squashing you, but they also take forever to open! We waited ten minutes for a lift the morning of check out, ridiculous. Breakfast in the restaurant was ad rage again, but so busy and it seemed like a back packers or like being on school camp... Horrible. The waitresses didn't promptly clear tables either. So over all, the only good thing was the location, in which you'd only stay there if you need to be close to the viaduct. It's really noisy otherwise. You can hear everything from the street all hours too.

Room Tip: Don't stay here if you like quality.

Recently spent 2 nights at the Copthorne, fantastic location, staff very friendly & helpful. Kindly gave us a late check out when we requested it, also arranged transport back to the airport for $35.00 rather than pay the $85 cab fare. Yes the hotel is dated & could do with a complete makeover, but at least it was clean & the beds were comfortable. Excellent value.

It has a great location, but looks like something out of the 80's. It is in a desperate need of an update. I would not mind a more budget type facility if it was newer. It looks worn down all over. You could say it is clean, but fittings and finishing are so old that it doesn't really matter if they are clean because they are so worn out. I guess it could be considered reasonable value for money.
