The hotel is a bit tired but for the price is reasonable value for money given the location and the outlook. The Check in and Check out process was really slow but other than this, the rooms were tidy and everything else was good

I had heard good things about The Copthorne from my parents as a great budget hotel. So we booked a month in advance, ad got to the hotel at 2am, as we had a red-eye flight.

We had a lot of luggage between the 3 of us, all which we dragged up the flight of stairs while being stared at by the concierge, no help at all was offered. The first of the two rooms we went to smelled noticeably bad, the airconditioner was completely non-functional. We attempted to call the front desk and were ignored. We went down, to have a bellboy to come up and play with the switches, and we were offered a pedestal fan.

It was a hot, noisy room, and there were no rooms left. Fortunately the other room had 3 single beds and a working air unit, so we stayed there, the beds were totally awful, low, lumpy things that provided no support or comfort.. We noticed when we first got to the hotel, there was a room service tray with dirty plates of food on it, on our floor. It was still there 2 days afterward when we checked out.

The manager worked to keep us happy by offering free parking, free breakfast and fully refunded one room, which we accepted. But for me the negatives should not have happened in the first place. Instead of being given rooms in priority due to booking, we had the worst rooms in the hotel foisted on us.

The one positive was the location.

this hotel is in a great location, easy to walk to most of the attractions and the views over the harbour were good, but the room was small and the decor was tired .The dining room was very small and the buffet breakfast area cramped.

We stayed here for 2 nights over a weekend.... We got a good deal on late rooms so we cannot complain about the price, but if we were paying the full tariff, I would have been very annoyed...
The internet access was so overpriced (we have been over here in NZ for 5 weeks now, and there are lots of establishments that no longer charge for internet access) also, once you have logged out even if there is time left on your "pakage" when you log back in you have to pay for another 2 hours.....
As other people have stated the rooms are SO tired, and very noisey from revellers outside at night....
Staff were average, and as one of the other people has commented, reception are not very speedy, with long queues when it comes to checking out time....
We stayed here several years ago - I do not think it has had any updating since then....
The only good points, very central, and the breakfast choice and price were excellent, with a good selection of fresh fruits, cereals, and cooked food, all nicely presented....

Room Tip: Higher rooms would not be so noisey, and would have slendid views as all their rooms face the harbou...

Hotel needs a refurb and looks and feels like highrise commission housing. Staff were inattentive and rude, room was so dated and dirty. Bed was uncomfortable and sheets were itchy. Bathroom was disgusting and air-conditioning was noisy and worst of all that old it was still in Fahrenheit. For the price avoid it, wouldn't stay if I was paid.

This hotel is in great need of renovation. The services such as lifts and other fixtures were last touched in the 60's. A ride in the lift is a scary experience, the A/C in the rooms measures temperature in Fahrenheit they are so old, it is quite depressing. The staff are not attentive, Internet access in room is over priced, you get 1 bar of soap which isn't replaced when the room is cleaned and the locals who come to party at the waterfront on the weekends are feral. Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else.

Getting very tired now but the location makes this hotel a good choice for hanging out in the Harbour area and central Auckland. Reception took a fair time as they had to check in long line of seemingly argumentative australians. Car park costs and extra $24 a day! Rooms all have great views, the higher the room the better the view. Bathroom is seriously dated and more in line with a motel in middle of nowhere than city centre top hotel. Worth using if you can get a good rate on it otherwise there are newer options.
