Good views from 11th floor over the harbour and cruise terminal.

Large well equipped room though decor dated & worn.

Adequate toiletries and towels.

I chose the hotel partly because it has harbour views and partly because I associated the name Copthorne with quality. In the event the view from our room was great but the decor, furnishing and general state of the hotel is not satisfactory and it needs an extensive refit. We stayed at a number of other city hotels in NZ costing a similar amount and all were well up to modern standards. The service here is OK but they charge for your parking. The harbour view is probably unrivalled, but we found the general state of the place to be fairly depressing.

Stayed here for 1 night on a friday.
Phoned from the airport and thought the location with view
to the harbour would be ideal. The hotel needs urgent updating and modernising. Its very very tired looking. No double glazing
and the noise until 0600 a.m. from weekend party people
prevented us to sleep. Sheets were clean but very untidy and
had not been ironed. We felt very uncomfortable in this hotel.
Avoid breakfast at all cost..it is dreadfull.
The view is great but you book a hotel to sleep.

Thank you for your feed back over the summer months we have added new revolutionary window joinery to all 187 rooms, which helps to reduce noise substantially. The new laminate glass together with the existing window joinery, has effectively decreased noise levels by up to 80%, and ensures our guests enjoy a peaceful sleep. We have also completed a soft refurbishment which included new carpets, modern bedspreads, drapes and elegant furniture including ottomans and sleek corporate desks have been added to all rooms.

we had a premium room right overlooking harbour.Only downside was that our room despite being on 9th floor was overlooking a night club by the Maritime Museum,.We stayed there on a Friday night & were kept awake until 4a.m by shrieking and buskers with a sing along crowd.I know you do not expect total quiet in a city but double glazing would have helped here!
otherwise no problems, the front desk staff were delightful & helpful.

I have stayed at Copthorne several times on business.

Pluses: Unbeatable location on Quay Street directly across from Auckland harbor, yacht basin and maritime museum, short walk to Queen Street and Albert Street shopping and dining areas.

Fantastic harbor views from all rooms. Fairly reasonable rates. Overall clean rooms, although some mold by ducts and between bathroom tiles. OK service. Easy access by car or airport shuttle bus. Room has complimentary tea/coffee service and minibar. Hotel is very busy with a lot of Japanese and other tour groups and business travelers. No A/C but shouldn't normally need it. (windows open). Overall, OK value for money if you are not too fussy.

Minuses: Hotel was built in 1973 and needs updating. They do seem to be (finally) refurnishing guest rooms with new furniture.

Hallway and lobby carpeting is faded/worn and needs updating. Bathroom fixtures are old but everything works. No internet in rooms, must buy prepaid card to use wireless in bar or lobby only (major nuisance for business travel). All rooms face harbor and busy Quay Street, may be noise issue if you are sensitive to traffic noise. Restaurant is very ordinary food and very overpriced. Unless you have the breakfast-included rate, eat breakfast elsewhere. (Overpriced NZ$27 for lame breakfast buffet).

We stayed in the Copthorne after being told by our travel agent that it was ideally located, great views, access to town etc. When we arrived from UK in the morning with jetlag we were told to come back at 2pm as there were no rooms or areas where we could recooperate. When we did return we had to twice ask for a cot for our daughter and when it arrived it was dirty, rickerty and even covered on the outside in white paint! The porter delivered it with a 'hope this is ok as this is the only one we have'! so it was that or nothing! For the 3 nights we stayed I hardly had a wink of sleep because the hotel is actually opposite the heart of Auckland's clubland and as the hotel has no double glazing the booming can be felt all until about 4/5am particularly bad on saturday nights, this obviously accompanied by police sirens and shouting etc. All in all, it is in a great location in terms of harbour and town accesibility but def needs a re-fit throughout and double glazing- avoid at weekends/if taking young children

My husband and I booked one night to attend a birthday bash in a local restaurant. Unfortunetly, I encouraged friends attending the party to do the same. We were given a room on the 10th floor that was not only "dated" and worn, but smelt of mould; the source was most likley the black grunge on the bathroom tiles. Whenever we, or the people next door, flushed a toilet or ran water in the basin the pipes set up the most horrendous whining din - we were told it must be "air in the pipes." At five thirty in the morning this was not helpful. The next morning, having booked a bed and breakfast special, we found the restaurant still closed past its 6:30 am opening ( we had to be off early), and were told that "the staff had forgotten about the Daylight Savings change the night before." When the restaurant did open one would think this last minute rush would have produced hot food - but everything, eggs, sausage, etc served buffet style -- was lukewarm; this particulary made one nervous as the food had to have been cooked the night before and reheated (just barely). To add insult to injuy, I've just had my credit card statement show that, despite our all inclusive bed and breakfast deal, they have charged us after we left for another $12NZD -- for breakfast!!!!!

Our friends seemed to fare worse at check-in, but now I think they made a lucky escape: one couple, with a husband confined to a wheelchair, were told upon arrival that because of overbooking, their room had been cancelled.

Steer clear - a far better hotel is the Mercure on Queen Street, and I was a sap.
