“Value for money comfort in the heart of Auckland”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

My daughter and I spent a weekend at this hotel at the beginning of the month and enjoyed it so much that we went back last weekend for three nights. Comfortable premier twin room with excellent bathroom on on level 6. When I mentioned that we liked the room they very kindly booked us into the same room for our second trip. The gym facilities were good though the pool was a little chilly. It was excellent value for money(NZ$113 per night on 3 night stay) and included free WiFi. They do not charge a fortune for drinks at the bar or for the minibar which makes a very nice change. First trip we used valet parking (NZ$35 per 24 hours) but second time we found our own very convenient spot in the car park and our ticket was validated for our stay (NZ$15 per 24 hours) and we could come and go when we liked. Handy underpass to Aotea Square. Helpful and efficient staff. Only down side was the smell of cigarette smoke that lingered in the hallway but if you are a smoker I assume that means that they still have smoking rooms. They certainly provide ashtrays etc on the patio. The hotel does packages for business travellers and they looked well thought out and good value.

Room Tip: We liked Level 6 as I do not go higher than the fire ladders but like to be a little above traffic n...

Dear MJock_8

Thank you for your recent stays at Rendezvous Grand Hotel and for this review. We were pleased to read you enjoyed it so much you returned for another extended stay. As many guests have mentioned our Bathrooms are excellent and would rate as some of the best in the city, I am also pleased you were satisfied with the options of self-park or valet park and our internet deal. I would also like to advise you that Floor 6 is our smoking floor so next time please have the team place you on the 5th Floor, that way you will not be inconvenienced. I have also requested that our Engineer increase the pool temperature.
Best regards Paul

I have stayed here several times in the last 12 months.
Parking CAN be a bit of a nightmare, especially self parking ..... and more especially looking for Mobility car parks!! Rooms are large and comfortable and usually well heated/cooled.
This trip something in our bathroom was rumbling on and off all through the night - sounded like the toilet was self-flushing or the bath was self emptying.

When booking, I did ask (as I do everytime) for the king bed ... and every time I check in, I ask if we have the double room not a twin room and for as long as I can remember each time the room has had to be changed so that we don't end up with the 2 double beds. The stay before this one I didn't check and sure enough .. 2 double beds. I was too tired to be bothered going down to ask to change.

It wasn't a problem to leave one "key" at reception for my husband turning up later than I did, quite funny when he nearly ended up with a key to a different room... someone would have got rather a surprise!!

The ONE outstandingly annoying thing that happened was during breakfast, we went to go and get some hot food and as I returned to the table, the staff were already removing our half drunk coffee cups and clearing the table ...and had to return them to our table!! I realise that the hotel table turn around policy might be high, and that clearing a table is a priority, but for goodness sake, make some allowence forfolks leaving the table to get breakfast!!! Didn't really leave a good impression with the handling of cups we were wanting to drink out of!

Our voucher deal included the broad statement of "internet included" but it didn't state that the time started at first log in and ran for 3 hours whether you used it or not and then dropped you off. This was actually an improvement on the last time, when I didn't ask for the internet access number and it wasn't offered even though it was part of our "deal".

Just shows that if you are entitled to something, or think you are .. do ask for it.

Room Tip: Check the bedding layout before going to the room.

Dear Sue R
Thank you for your continued patronage of Rendezvous Grand Hotel and for this comprehensive review of the property. Our mobility carparks are clearly marked on each level and I have increased the security of our carpark checking for guests who may use these spots without displaying a mobility sticker. I would be interested to discuss with more the issue around not receiving a King Room when you request, this should be actioned. Thank you also for your feedback on the restaurant team, I will sit with them and use your review as a training session on how we need to ensure our guests are finished. As far as the internet we provide 3 hours complimentary per day, we publish this information around the hotel, however I will ensure the front desk team explain to all guests.

Best regards Paul

This is a very large hotel with many different room 'qualities' . Dont hesitate to be moved to an alternate room if you get landed a 'below ground level' room as appeared to be the default on our first stay. Have stayed here 3 times, all perfectly fine - and really good value for money for a central city hotel. Make sure you ask for a 'quiet' room at the end of a corridor and away from the lifts. 5th floor or above, south side, should give a reasonable city type view. Adjacent car park is very useful and included in the price - albeit a public building - so we were unsure of its security after hours - but all was fine. Room was spacious , clean and modern with an opening window if you dont like the aircon. Avoid the north sided rooms if you dont like summer heat. Easy walk to Queen St. and really handy to motorway onramp when your ready to leave. Very good value compared to similar hotels in the area !

We stayed 2 nights at the Rendezvous and were very pleased with everything. The staff were extremelly helpful, the room was spacious and clean. Car parking was only 15nzd a night and the car park was adjacent to the hotel. Breakfast was very good and the service was great. The subway to Aotea Square made access to the centre of the city easy. Although bathrobes were not, as is stated, provided in the room a phone call to housekeeping ensured that one was delivered to our room within 5 minutes. The pool is great but a shame that the large doors to the outside made it somewhat chilly. We would definitely stay here again if in Auckland.

Decided to take a spur of the moment trip for the Queen's Birthday long weekend. Found a last minute flight to Auckland so jumped on it.

This is a very good hotel in central Auckland. The staff couldn't do enough to help us - from an airport transfer over the phone to arranging a couple of tickets for a harbour cruise. Our room was on the 12th floor and had a wonderful view of the city.

Can't fault this hotel, would definitely stay here again and thoroughly recommend. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and spotlessly clean, and the staff a credit to the hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a city view room (and high floor). Auckland is a beautiful city - make sure you...

Stayed for three nights - greated by friendly staff at reception who accomadated my request without question, to change rooms when I discovered I would by looking at a rather depressing walled garden, rather than a view of the city etc.....off to a good start! The room I stayed in was very clean and comfortable, the odd bit of wear and tear, but overall a good sized modern room. The bathrooms were clean, and big which is plus! Good shower pressure. Mini bar selection was very poor and if you are like me and prone to late snacks, you could be disappointed.Good gym and indoor pool. Because of the shear size of the lobby, it can feel very low energy when there are not other guests around. No where near as polished as the langham or SkyCity Grand but, a lot more relaxed. Over all this is a good business hotel to stay at for the price and I will consider again when next in Auckland.

Ask for a quiet room - we got one on the 12th floor at the end of the corridor and it was spacious with a lovely view of the city.Unfortunately we only stayed one night but would have been happy to have stayed a week so that we could use the amenities. It was really good value for money and a free drink...

Room Tip: spacious - value for money -great sevice
