Might be right on water but looking straight into the cabins of a huge cruise ship right outside the window (and I mean absolutely slap bang outside) is no fun at all. Only saving grace was that the double glazing must be okay as we're not woken up at 6.30 when second cruise ship came in. Lucky at least to be on sixth floor as lower floors would have had view of rubbish skips being filled up from the cruise ship and containers for deliveries.

Service was at same time overly fussy and at times incompetent. You don't need to be asked every two seconds if you need anything else. And you expect people who can understand your order and remember it. We had one waitress in bar not capable of either.

Had trouble with the room cards too. Particularly annoying when the card did not work being given third degree before they would activate it again. Wanted IDs and signatures and complicated by fact my husband's name is not the same as mine and who takes photo ID out in evening purses. It is not as if it was our fault that their key card system was on the blink.

Positives. Rooms are quite nice. Breakfast was not bad, although lack of fruit. View once cruise ships finally gone is stunning.

Overall, however, not experience to be repeated.

Room Tip: Check if cruise ships in. If so avoid hotel.

Dear SGGNZ,

Thank you for posting your review of the hotel, I appreciate your feedback.

I do apologise for the inconvenience caused by a cruise ship being moored outside of the hotel during your stay. when we receive reservation requests for dates over the cruise ship season, we take every step possible to advise upon reservation that a ship may be in port and views may be restricted. I apologise that it seems you were not advised of this.

I am also sorry that the service provided to you during your stay did not meet with your expectations. While I understand your frustration at your key card not working, there are some procedures we have to use to ensure the security of our guests is protected which is why we ask for ID. I do apologise that this caused further inconvenience.

Please do let me know if you choose to return to the hotel, so I can ensure you receive an experience in keeping with your expectations.

Best regards,

Chris Partridge

Located right on the water, it’s a very short walk to Queen Street, the Viaduct, and SkyTower. Rooms were nice and modern with great views of the city at night. The staff was very friendly. Everyone we encountered during our stay had a smile and was constantly offering assistance. Couldn’t have had a more pleasant stay and would definitely return. Hilton Honors members – FYI, no Executive Lounge, but they have a fantastic complimentary buffet breakfast and free drink coupons for the hotel bar.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the water are great - other side faces a parking lot

Stayed one night here in October, 2012. Staff was ver friendly and helpful, arranging our car transport for the airport for a very early departure. Room had a spacious deck with views of the harbor. Bathroom is huge. Only quibble was not having our room ready when we checked in at 3pm. We had to wait about 20 minutes.

I recently visited here on a site-inspection for work and it is a lovely property, in the best location on the water in Auckland! Great staff, fantastic rooms and lovely bar. I would recommend a balcony room if possible, as such a stunning view.

Room Tip: The cocktails are excellent and I recommend sitting in the bar looking out over the water at sunset!

Overall, a good and comfortable hotel, well positioned for sight seeing tours of city and harbour, shopping etc. Restaurant ("Fish") also good, though limited menu. Surprised that there is no spa, however.

Room Tip: check Auckland harbour website for cruise liner arrivals; they dock beside the hotel!

My husband and I stayed one night, location is fantastic. We had a harbour view room on the 7th floor, view was great. Room was lovely and clean. We had drinks in the bar which had a nice friendly atmosphere. Breakfast was good, nothing too over the top, all the food looked nice and fresh. Staff were very nice. Would definitely stay again, location is fab.

The location is right in the Central Business District and you can walk to all downtown attractions.

Given that it is build on a former wharf it actually is build into the sea.

The ferries and boats go right by our window and we can observe them coming in and out of the harbour.

If you can get a room with sea view (instead of pool view) and if you are lucky you will find the room to have a big balcony/terrace with some sun beds and table. If the weather is right you can not beat this. From our terrace we have a nice view onto the city as well.

The services and amenities is what you would expect from a top range Hilton hotel and everything is to a high standard.

It has a gym and an outdoor pool, which isn't the largest but with superb views.

The breakfast is plenty and of high quality with a chef on the side waiting to turn your egg orders into a tailor made breakfast.

The restaurant Fish and the bar Bellini rate high amongst local establishments and offer great dishes and drinks based on what we have seen.

We are very satisfied and will recommend this place to our friends.
