Description: Café Hanoi is a modern Vietnamese restaurant housed within a heritage warehouse space in Britomart, the city’s oldest commercial district. The restaurant reflects our passion and respect for Vietnamese food and culture. Our menu offers authentic Hanoian street food that has made the city world famous, and other more modern dishes that pair traditional Northern Vietnamese cooking techniques with the best of New Zealand produce. We are very careful to choose ingredients that have been sourced with a deep respect for the environment.

“Fast, tasty and buzzing”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Whether for lunch or dinner, Cafe Hanoi is always busy, buzzing and turning over meals quickly. The dining room reflects Hanoi and is novel in NZ. The Maitre d' is excellent, juggling seating to provide a space. Sometimes wait times are long at night so ring ahead or come early. The food is excellent. Bite size, fresh and authentic. The Chicken Papaya is always good. Tiger beer on tap, a perfect partner.

“Hard to fault”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Noisy when busy, yes, but I doubt anyone comes here for a quiet night out. Service and food both good and the bunker lookalike decor saves on costs I assume. I am not competent to judge the food's authenticity but it sure tasted good. Very conveniently situated and a nice change from the usual Auckland restaurants.

“My favourite restaurant in Auckland.”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

If you like Vietnamese cuisine, you will love this restaurant. I have eaten there several times - always with a group, and have never been disappointed with the food, service or atmosphere.
It's very popular and does not accept bookings, but you can have a drink at the bar while waiting for a table.

“Brilliant”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

Can't book, but can wait at bar, and well worth the wait for this very busy, central restaurant. Great service, amazing (authentic mostly) Vietnamese food, and cool atmosphere. Wine pretty pricey, but that's the norm for this part of town!

“Food has potential, shame about everything else...”
Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

We went to Cafe Hanoi on a recommendation - it is clearly popular because we had to wait half an hour with no reservation on a Sunday night. And I can understand why, the food was generally good and not very expensive. However, with the exception of the Maitre d' we found the service almost useless - wine glasses either empty or filled to almost overflowing, food touched by waitresses fingers, but still served as if all ok, and generally just friendly without the requisite level of professionalism. I also don't think the place had a great atmosphere - the decor was very inexpensive and I could very easily converse with all 4 of my neighbors - none of them part of my party!!!

Sorry - Auckland has MUCH better!
