We just visited for a special occasion (our last night in NZ after living here for a year) and could not be happier with our experience. The service was absolutely top notch and the food was excellent. Our waitress was so helpful and courteous, making us feel at home and even bringing us a free entree so that we could try one of their most popular dishes (Aroy Dee Thai Herb Wrap), which was delicious. For our mains we tried several dishes with prawns, chicken, scallops and beef. We were impressed by the incredibly tender cooking of the seafood/meats and the level of flavor and spice that was brought to every dish. Even the dishes we ordered “as-is” had a fair level of spice, while the “thai-spicy” curries we ordered were by far the most flavorful and intensely spiced dishes we have tasted in the country over the past year (warning: their “thai-spice” level of heat is definitely not appropriate for the kiwi palette). I would highly recommend this restaurant just based on the food, but the attention to detail and service put it over the top. 10/10.

Lovely place to have a special evening. The service with smile and the food was absolutely fantastic.
The restaurant is tastefully done up and is charming. The hostess was lovely and made good suggestions. Had a lovely evening.

Do try their duck wrap as it is a speciality.

Good value for money. Most of the seating arrangement is for two to four. They have one table for 6 people. If you are entertaining few friends make sure you make a booking.
They do have seating outside which is great for summer evening.

We followed the waitress recommendations and we got some creative and fresh starters and mains. Stirfry chicken with basil and herbs was outstanding as the curry lamb. The wine list is good but could do with more variety..the only minor point was the Tom Yam Goon not as fresh as expected but overall surely a place to visit again!

We were exhausted after our overnight flight from Los Angeles and so the Langham concierge suggested Blue Elephant as a casual restaurant with a mellow scene but wonderful food. He was right!!!

We arrived late in the evening and even though they were about to close up for the night, they welcomed us in. The pad thai was delicious, and the sauce on the grilled prawns was fantastic. The dish both my husband and I enjoyed the most was the Blue Elephant Thai curry, which was not at all spicy and more of a braised pork belly dish. Yum! Great with plain rice! We also had the tom yum chicken soup (we asked for extra spicy) and it was good! The service is excellent with the waitress who served us being so attentive that she handed me some serviettes on a small platter when she noticed I was sniffling from the spicy tom yum! We also had a wonderful chat with Karen who owns and runs the restaurant, where she introduced us to very lovely wines, one of which we have gone on to buy 4 bottles of when we returned home. The restaurant is a little hard to find, being tucked in an alleyway, so keep your eyes peeled! You won't want to miss this!
