Description: The iconic Hotel DeBrett is nestled in the heart of Auckland city, at the crossroads of Shortland Street’s business and High Street’s fashion precincts, just two short blocks from the waterfront. Our 25 rooms and suites are individually decorated in a mid-century modern style, show-casing contemporary New Zealand arts and crafts, overlaid with 21st century comforts. At the core of the hotel we have created a glass roofed atrium and courtyard, which provide ambient meeting spots for guests and visitors, with a casual gourmet restaurant “kitchen” at one end, and the legendary art deco “House Bar” at the other. Tucked off to the side, exclusively for house guests, is a drawing room stocked with a selection of our own art, books, music and movies. Experience a mix of calm and bustle in central Auckland, and share our special home away from home, with personal yet professional service. We look forward to welcoming you to Hotel DeBrett.

“De Bretts Kitchen is simply superb!”
Reviewed April 3, 2014

With a 26 person party we pre-booked with the lovely Olivia for the set menu "square meal" for lunch. And what a delicious gourmet lunch it wa, served by a team of professionals, in what has to be one of the nicest settings in the city.
We arrived and were welcomed to a light and quiet private area in the atrium that was beautifully laid out in 2 tables. Impeccable service, drinks, dinner bread served with olive oils....then, in what has to be the perfect way to serve lunch, we were each delivered a large plate with your entree, main and dessert in one go. Genius! No waiting for individual courses as the lunch hour ticks by, it's all there, beautifully balanced and fresh.
Fig with buffalo mozarella and balsamic dressing, a choice of 3 for the mains (market fish, beef salad or the chicken curry), and a delicious berry and mascarpone dessert.
Devine food, gourmet standard and good sized portions, fresh and delicious.
Summing up: Service was excellent, food delicious, in an atrium that was sophisticated, modern and chic. We loved it.

“Unique Ambience”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

This restaurant is unique in that you feel you're outside except there is an atrium above. Very pleasant ambience I thought. Gorgeous candles burning on top of the mantel which added a lovely atmosphere. Very comfortable chairs. The food was good although the deserts didn't overly inspire. The service was attentive and good. We'll be back to this charming restaurant.

“Good Service, Average Meal”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

My husband and I were staying at Debrett's and as the restaurant was well reviewed we decided to try it. The restaurant room is very pleasant and the service was very good as well. However, the food was just okay, not great. Prices in New Zealand are shockingly high and Debrett's Kitchen was no exception.

“New year shocker”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

We'd eaten at Kitchen several times before and had very nice food so when I saw their New Year's Eve offer I thought it'd be a nice way to spend the evening. It started well with cocktails in the bar, where we had great service and the cocktails were lovely. I wish we'd stayed in the bar.
The menu was a 5 course degustation and expensive at $135pp, but it was NYE so there's a premium expected but I also expected the usual Kitchen quality. The first course was forgettable, the second was a parfait that was average. The third was beetroot cured broadbill and was completely inedible, however the waitress was uninterested. The main of snapper did not have crispy skin and was barely cooked and lacked flavour. Overall the service was poor, they'd clearly just got temporary wait staff in for the night who were disorganised and couldn't care less and we were rushed even though we'd gone for the second sitting.
Then when we came to pay for the drinks the bill was incorrect.
Having recently eaten the 10 course degustation at Sidart which was amazing and a similar price I have to say Kitchen was a huge disappointment.

“Great even with kids”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

I went to DeBretts for dinner with my husband to celebrate a big-ish bday and took our 6 months old with us. There were another family there with two small kids. However, the staff there were friendly and made us feel comfortable having our little one there with us. We always loved the atmosphere and the decor there. The food as usual was superb and beautifully presented.
