Description: Nestled at the very back of the quaint Elliott Stables is a treasure trove of authentic Latin American gourmet delights. Besos Latinos – ‘Latin Kisses’, a romantically filled and enchanting promise that is delivered to the lips in every morsel. Softly lit by fairy lights and candles, the old brick interior is added to by a feast of colourfully spicy and original murals by Mexican artist CeciliaMijangos. Her inspiring interior design equals the food for its authenticity and uniqueness. Enormous flower arrangements add drama in the curved recesses and add an air of surrealism when mixed with the eclectic collection of gothic Latin American folk art. This is a restaurant to come to enjoy a host of new flavours and combinations in an old world space. It certainly seems as if Auckland is a distant city as finer details materialise into the larger landscape of the airy space. The lively atmosphere at Besos Latinos is perfect for either a group or a couple on a date!

We booked a table for 7. All good. There were two other large family groups in the restaurant. The decor is lovely, we were given drinks menus. We ordered a carafe of white sangria, and waited. It took probably about 15 minutes to come out. Still no sign of food menus. Eventually they came. The other part of our group ordered red sangria. Again we waited about 15 minutes, then asked what the problem was. Apparently they had run out of carafes, so we poured our white sangria into glasses and gave them the carafe to put the red sangria into. We looked around the restaurant and could see only 3 other carafes, so seems they are a bit short. We did get food menus and ordered whilst this was happening. The food was delicious. Big meals, nicely cooked and tasty. However one of our party had ordered two entrees to come out when we got our mains. This was served about 5 minutes after the mains, and only 1 entree meal. Then the waitress returned to say they had run out of guacamole. A Mexican restaurant running out of guacamole seemed very poor planning! She was offered an alternative of a bean dip which she declined. We went through another round of sangria performance ( emptying the carafe so we could order more white sangria - which arrived as red sangria) Once we had finished our meals, we were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menus. We answered yes. Another 10-15 minute wait, at which stage we gave up and decided desserts were not an option. My overwhelming conclusion was this restaurant can't cope with multiple big groups.

When you enter, everything looks very promising, nice location, authentic music/decor. Beef tacos as a starter were delicious, Mojito is ok, Uruguayan chicken was basically crispy chicken breast with salad and mayo, no salad sauce or any special spices. Same for the fish of the day in 08/15 tomato sauce and again no herbs/spices. One waitress was very nice, the other one just doing her job...

Wandering about we found Elliott Stables, it was crowded and noisy. As we reviewed each menu we found Besos Latinos (which has its own seating/restaurant). Quick and great service. We enjoyed the empanadas and the ceviche was FAB! To follow we had the el toro and pulled pork tacos. The pulled pork was so good, we had more. Easy wine list and the young lady who served us was a treat. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Have been to Elliot Stables before, love the busy atmosphere- so like eating out in Europe, choice of food etc. All meals have been good with fast service as always going to show when we've eaten here.
Was hard to decide but as this is something different chose Besos Latinos, also there were tables to sit at, and so pleased we did.
From walking in, the service, such friendly, delightful waitresses, buzzy atmosphere, music and art work on walls made you feel you were in Latin America...and the sultry heat too added to the experience..difficult to keep the beer cool it was so tropical.
The food and Mexican beers superb, although they were very busy managed to serve us our meals so we had time to have another beer and relax before going to the Pop up Globe.
Vey well priced meal, and despite a couple of mix ups with drinks but they were so busy you couldn't fault this place.

The wait staff at Besos Latinos did a fantastic job of looking after our party of twelve for dinner before the Prince concert. Quickly bringing drinks and taking orders. Everyone raved about their meals - we all selected several small dishes. Special mention for the cerviche, fish tacos and wow, great guacamole. Thanks for a great start to a wonderful night.
