“Great service and quite exotic”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

We sat for dinner and enjoyed our time here. We ordered the banquet/set menu which was very nice however I do wish that I had ordered a la carte instead in retrospect, but that was my fault, not theirs. I did not really enjoy the deep fried entrees. Mains on the banquet were very nice. Highlight of the meal was the sago with ice cream dessert. If you venture here indulge yourself and order that dessert. Service was very good and they had a lot of staff servicing the tables. Thank you and if in Auckland again I would visit here again.

“Amazing Thai in the heart of Auckland”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

We were in a hotel nearby and we were impressed with the location, grandeur and outlook; the food and service exceeded our expectations. The best compliment that can be offered is that each of our party of 10 was delighted with the experience.
Keep up your great work

“Mixed feelings.”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

My partner and I spontaneously decided to dine at Grasshopper on a Sunday night. We were greeted with amazing décor, a warm welcome and an available table.
The $40pp banquet menu for two was decided upon we quickly received our entrées. A curry puff, a fried vermicelli and mushroom spring roll and a scallop with lemongrass, fried shallot and chili, also a dipping sauce of chili and apricot.
Overall, the balance of the plate was average, spice on top of more spice. The scallop was overcooked and rubbery.

Soup was a chicken and mushroom, served with kaffir lime leaves, ginger, lemongrass and a small wedge of tomato. Overall it was tasty and fragrant, aside from the two huge pieces of ginger my partner had to dodge.

Mains included a Green chicken curry, Prawns and Jasmine rice. The curry was nicely spiced and seasoned well. The prawns just seemed too sweet, contradictory to common knowledge of Thai cuisine having a balance between salty, sweet, sour and spicy.

Waiting about 20 minutes after we finished, our plates were cleared. Which is why my scoring of a 2/5 is relevant, service was very ignorant it even took 15 minutes to get a refill of water.

Dessert of a sago, vanilla ice-cream and jasmine tea was a good finisher. If I were completely critical, the ice-cream can be a proper, Crème anglaise coloured, vanilla bean ice-cream as opposed to the nostalgic, appliance-white, artificially flavoured stuff.

“Exceptional elegance”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

Always loved Thai food but this was Exceptional Thai Food. Not only was it a very high standard, tasty and top quality in both ingredients and presention, also on the occasion we visited (Saturday night) it was a great atmosphere, buzzing, together with great entertainment. Very attentive staff and superb host Bo gets full marks from us - thoroughly recommended and will definately be returning very soon.
