“Understated but reliable.”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

This is my local, along with some other very fine cafes and restaurants. I love it because I've had many happy memories there. The menu and food is generally very tasty and reliable and the coffee has always been fab. Disappointing that there doesn't appear to be anywhere to leave a 'phone message and emails aren't responded to. Tried to make a group booking and the day before a message was left asking us to confirm but I wasn't able to speak to anyone to do so. The staff are attentive and polite but we were the only ones there for ages. Perfect venue for larger groups, some cafes are just too small and noisy. Ravenhill has three separate dining areas, an outside courtyard, a quieter inside dining room away from the road frontage and beautiful big windows facing outside that can be opened up on a good day. The window benches are made of marble leftover from it's previous life as a butchery....loads of history here.

We went there for brunch and a coffee. We both had the eggs beni , great presentation on the food, plenty of bacon and salmon. The eggs however were way over cooked.
The coffee was fine and the hot chocolate was awesome!
The courtyard that we sat in, out behind the cafe, needs a bit of a tidy up, and would of been nice if some music was playing.
The service was great and the staff were friendly.

“Sunday brunch........yummo”
Reviewed March 2, 2010

Got here early on a Sunday morning (before 8am).........was going to another recommended cafe but it wasn't open............so stumbled upon Ravenhill furthur up the road........browny points straight away for being open early!!!
The table in the corner with the sofa was made for us (4 adults & a rugrat)......gorgeous, warm early sun streamed onto my poached eggs while i guzzled my mocha!.............heaven!
Its a fairly standard menu but everything we had was good.........(we knew it was 'coz rugrat kept sampling everyones.)..............service & atmosphere very good........& plenty of room out the back.........we were definitely impressed.......
