“Nice authentic Malaysian food”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

This is a restaurant that I have visited a few times. Sometimes, its good and sometimes, not. Lucky for me and my friend, today's (Saturday) lunch was a good one.

Service - Friendly service. Very quick to clear the table and clean them. No problems at all.

Food - My friend ordered chicken laksa and I ordered the char kway teoh. Both were a little on the spicy side but it tasted authentic. Just like something I would get from back home in Malaysia. The amount in the laksa was alright but the kway teoh would have been better if it had a bit more in it.

Value - Slightly over-priced compared to other Malaysian restaurants around town for the amount of food you get. This would be the biggest qualm I have about this place.

Atmosphere - Very busy and lucky we got a place at 12 cause it filled up within 5 minutes with people. So come early or very late for lunch.

Overall - Nice tastes but the price is slightly more expensive than I would have liked.

“Nice food but average service”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

This restaurant has the best rendang dish in Auckland. It is tasty and reasonable price.the food comes quit fast and you can have free warm tea as well. It is located in very crowded Newmarket. It is quite difficult to park your car, especially on the weekend or the night. There is one carpark nearby but also it can be easily full on the weekend. Beside of this, just expect average service from the staff, they are hardly smiles...

“Best authentic Rendang in Auckland”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

I've been to Malaysia enough times to know the cuisine and these guys know how to do it. Obviously they've been trained in the art of Beef Rendang - authentic flavors and tender beef. I'd travel across the city for it. Other dishes are really good too, however I find it hard to order anything else.

“Malaysian in Kiwiland”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Great authentic Malaysian cuisine. Selera has been around for years now and still frequented by the local Malaysians in Auckland. This amongst the Malaysian community is a sign of good eats. Serves street food cuisine. The satay, Hainanese Chicken Rice and Fried Turnip Cake are must tries.

“Great Laksa”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

It is disappointing to go to a Malaysian Restaurant for a Laksa to come away feeling cheated because they are too greedy to keep the recipe authentic and cut corners on the main ingredients that make Laksa so moreish - Selera have kept true to flavours and it is easy to see why their Laksa is so popular with many regulars. Quick service and fast turnaround with staff appearing like they let the good food speak for itself and they don't seem interested in interacting with any customers. Most tables had containers of chopsticks to selectfor your meal, however they had only had the slightest rinse and were dried greasy filthy which we rejected for forks they we could at least wipe clean with a serviette. Maybe Selera is getting a bit complacent from the compliments of good food and other areas are letting them down but we will try again in the hope that the ambience & cleanliness matches the quality of their food.
