“Warning : Rip-off”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

Worst experience on my New Zealand trip and a disgrace to Auckland. We got fleeced over 300 dollars (160 x 2 persons). They must have kown there was not enough wind to sail BEFORE selling us tickets. Then 40 minutes into the "sail cruise", crewed by 4 unprofessional acting young men who used a motor most of the time, they cancel the excursion and instead of doing the right thing and REFUNDING our money for a service NOT delivered; all we got in return was a coupon for a future cruise (non-transferrable of course). A lot of good that does to a foreigner on a tight schedule that will NEVER be back to Auckland anytime soon. Before the cruise, the crew asked where everyone was from. Not one Kiwi in the bunch. They had to know that few of the future cruise coupons will ever be redeemed. Also, how convenient the coupons were ready to be picked up immediately upon return to the dock. All of this left an impression of a calculated SCAM.

Hi coalharbor2010,

We are very sorry to hear about your experience on our America’s Cup Sailing Experience. It is very unfortunate that you feel that we delivered an unsatisfactory product as we always strive to deliver nothing less than a stellar 2 hours on the water. We have consulted both the crew and the team on shore on the day and I would like to take the time to respond to your feedback.

Unfortunately due to the nature of our sailing trips we are entirely dependent on the weather and sometimes we have less than ideal sailing conditions despite thorough weather checks before every trip. On this particular day good sailing wind was forecast however once out on the water it became clear that this was not the case.

Our team on the boat always try to deliver a great trip and as keen sailors themselves want to provide the best sailing experience possible for our customers. I hope you can understand it is always a difficult call whether to give up and head back to shore or persevere and hope the wind picks up as it is very changeable.

In regards to the last points, should the trip we deliver be less than what we believe is a top experience due to these elements our duty manager considers our response on a case by case basis. On this day the decision made was to offer a complimentary voucher which the crew felt that the passengers were happy with, which was then relayed back to shore to ensure the vouchers were available on the trips return. We regret you were not able to voice your concerns on return to shore which we then could have resolved on the day.

I hope this will help you to understand how our operation works and why in this case we were not able to deliver the experience we strive to. We are currently reviewing our operating procedures for days such as this when there is no or very little wind and appreciate the feedback.

“Great sailing experience”
Reviewed January 25, 2013 via mobile

Having never been on a real sailing yacht, to go on the America's Cup yacht was amazing. We did have the best day weather-wise thAt you could hope for so the sailing was perfect. And we could do as much or as little as we liked. The crew were really friendly and funny and interesting to chat to which made the whole experience much more than just sailing so it was a bonus! Would do this one again - never get sick of real sailing and surprisingly we are not boaties!!

“Americas Cup Re-enactment”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

There weren't sufficient people for a match race so we went for a 2 hour sail up Auckland Harbour followed by a run before the wind back to Viaduct Harbour.
Our young crew were friendly, energetic & knowledgeable.
They had to be because like some sailing days things did not go according to plan. First something broke, blocking the path of the jib as it was hoisted. Two of our crew combined skilfully, one being hoisted in the chair up the mast to clear the offending object & we were working windward.
On our run before the wind we found the genika was tangled so it was stowed below & quickly replaced by our jib.
Very good crew team work handling things that can happen when one is out on the water.

“A great way to spend a couple of hours on the water”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

Trip slated for two hours - almost all of it is on the water. Fun staff and you can do as much or as little as you like. Loved it.
