This is a hidden gem just down the southern motorway. Head to Waiuku and the signposts will point you in the right direction. Closed until Labour weekend and then it will be all go. Watch out for Thomas weekends and other specials.

Was just looking at going here on our next trip and found its not open all year round. So glad l checked the website for more info and read this so thought l'd pass on the info to others -
The regular operating season starts on Labour Weekend (late October) and continues until Queens Birthday (early June). During this season trains operate Sundays and most public holiday weekends.

I have put a rating on this ONLY because l could not submit this information without one. I selected very good because it looks and sounds like a good day out and a lot of work has gone into it to restore the history.

The Thomas the Tank Engine Day is fun. Kids who like Thomas really enjoy the short trips on the made up engines... and you can opt to take the longer ride to the workshop, which allows you to get off and look around the old engines - great fun!
