The dedication of the volunteers running this place is amazing. We have taken our four year old out there four times over the last two years and he has been utterly absorbed and charmed every time. The latest was for a birthday party, set in one of the carriages during the train trip and by the playground, and it worked brilliantly. There is a good train themed playground, a little shop and cafe, of course the train ride including a look at the sheds where the old steam locos are worked on and a couple of rides on little trains. Not too expensive and a good day out. Note: check when they are open, take a warmer jacket as there always seems to be a cold wind out there, and if you go on the Thomas themed special days it will be packed so get there early. Other days are lovely and quiet.
