This hotel was great, my husband and i stayed here in March 2012 for 3 nights. We arrived very late at night and when i rang the hotel the week before to let them know, they left our room key in a locked security box outside the front door. They were very helpful with this and we had no problems with the staff whatsoever.

The room was very well set out, and had plenty of cooking equipment for self catering. There was also a balcony so from our room on the 12th floor we had a lovely view. Very well decorated and modern.

Hotel is very close to town, only a ten minute walk. However hotel is at the top of a very steep hill so get a taxi back if you have trouble walking or have had a few beers. Parking is available (at a price) but it is around the corner from the hotel. Also be very careful where you park, we were actually blocked in by someone parking irresponsibly and had to wait an hour for it to be towed away (which when you are on the way to the airport is the last thing you want.)

The only things that weren't up to standard was our shower door was broken, but everything else was great. We were for some reason put in a 2 bedroom apartment when we only asked for a 1 bed, so make sure you double check your booking- it might save you some money. Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for three nights in January. We had an apartment with two double bedrooms. It was a really nice apartment which had it's own balcony, cooking equipment, living room area with television and comfortable beds. We managed to get it for a really good price and were very happy with what we got. It is close to the centre also.

We enjoyed our three night stay at the Waldorf Tetra Apartments in Auckland. It's just on the fringe of the city centre and very much in education heartland, so several under and post graduate students have apartments in the block. There's also a good range of young service professionals from police and nearby hospitals too. That could cause some to imagine a rather "lively" atmosphere, but there's a strict no noise policy between 11pm and 7am and our stay, which incorporated the weekend, suggests that it's well adhered to.
The apartments would be pushed to cater for more than a couple although they are well equipped for that. The word bijou springs to mind! You walk into a kitchenette barely 8ft x 6 and this immediately turns into a lounge with room for a settee, armchair, coffee table and desk. thank goodness for flat screen TV hanging from the wall above the desk. Incongruously, there's a second bathroom off the lounge. It's helpful, but by leaving it out the space could have been better utilised expanding the kitchen and lounge area. The bedroom just off the lounge has a good sized area for a wardrobe as you enter the room. Here there's a double bed with pedestal bedside stands with room for lamp, alarm clock and personal belongings. Again somewhat oddly, the only table big enough for dining is in the bedroom, but we got over it!
The apartment works well. It has plenty of crockery, cookware and utensils and a microwave, toaster and two ring stove top, all of which function properly and well. In the sink and the showers water force is excellent and hot water comes through quite swiftly. Both the lounge and bedroom have good opening windows which assist ventilation when open, but close off street sound effectively once closed. The lifts are efficient and work well and the whole place is very clean and tidy reflecting the very good work of the amiable management team.
One final potentially life saving tip!!! Those familiar with Auckland will know that the city is extremely hilly, and the Waldorf Tetra is smack bang at the top of one of those hills. Great for a breezy walk into town in the morning, but lees enticing after a day on the sightsee. However, help is at hand. The 258 bus runs from the junction with Queen St at the foot of Wakefield St, up the hill to a stop just opposite the Tetra... it may be the best 50c you spend in New Zealand!
I have no difficulty in recommending the Waldorf Tetra Apartments most highly. Apart from the quality of the accommodation, the ease of access to the city centre and north / south highway plus the range of useful, cheap services in the area make it a worthwhile consideration for the traveller in New Zealand.

Hi,

I stayed at a one bedroom apartment at this establishment for a month. The location is excellent, especially if you are visiting the University of Aukcland or AUT. The location is also super handy for Queen street which is loaded with shops/restaurants/etc.

The apartments are clean, functional and have adequate furniture and the kitchen is well equipped. The laundry facilites in the basement are reasonable and do the job.

The staff are very helpful and I would like to note Keith & Kirsty Denyer who manage this property: they are very helpful in everything, always smiling and very hospitable.

I have to say that the gym is poorly equipped. It is basically a small flat turned-into-gym. I understand that this is a budget place, but some of the equipment don't even work. I beleive that it can be refurbished on a budget: a good set of dumbles, a couple of benches, a treadmil and a bike is enough and the big machine should go away -- it just does not work.

Overall, I would certainly recommend this place -- the gym issue is minor (at least for me).

Room Tip: Try to avoid the LG floor. It gets a bit noisy over the weekends.

After a terrible experience at another Auckland hotel, I booked one night at a 2-bedroom apartment. On the 11th floor, nice and tidy, well equipped for a longer stay, comfortable beds, and only 20% more expensive than the dreadful hotel's double-bedroom room which leaked sewage. Needless to say we loved it, and will be back. The hotel staff are excellent too.
