The evening was getting a little windy and cold so we stopped in this bar because it looked warm and inviting. My partner spotted some of the other punters sharing a drink from these massive towers so we were intringed. They are Bluestone towers and are filled up with approx 4 pints of your chosen draught beer. So we settled in and had a very nice evening indeed.

After reading rave reviews about this place I thought I better give it a visit. I wasn't disappointed, but neither was I overly impressed.

Perhaps Mondays are quiet, but when I arrived it was about 8pm and the place was almost empty.

Service was good and friendly, and the menu had a good variety to suit most tastes at a reasonable price.

The food was well presented and tasty, and I have no complaints.

All in all, a pleasant meal, but the place itself was lacking in atmosphere.

Whilst staying for one month at Chiftley Suites, we frequented the Bluestone Room all too often. I found this place, and especially the staff, to be all too welcoming and provide the experience when wanting to relax with the Mrs, or enjoy the start of a big night.

On two occasions we introduced family members visiting from overseas to kiwi culture through the Bluestone Rooms, and ourselves indulged with a beer tower of frothing ale. The food we tried was on the excellent side of pub food (the size of the lamb shanks still sticks with me), even the pizzas, wedges and other snacks were done well.

The wine list on offer was extensive and service times were always minimal, even on the packed Friday nights.

The usual crowd tended to be afterwork types intent on having a good time, with the odd tourist. Tucked out the way of Queen Street its not a place you would probably stumble upon by chance, and that adds to the beauty.

Happy hour (when we visited) was 5pm-6pm and an extra hour on a Friday. Reduced pint and house wine prices.
