“Location is really good.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2014

It was totaly good. Attitude of every person in reception were good.

If following two points are improved, it would be better.
1. The room was a little bit cold. I needed warmer heater.
2. I want cheaper car park fee per night. If it's NZ$15, I would probably book again.

I have stayed here in the past and was very happy with the location and room size. This stay, our room was decidedly shabby and most disappointing was the bathroom. The tiles were very mouldy and the glass was also very streaky. Also it did not appear that the toilet was cleaned properly. It was a shame as it is well located and well priced. I would not choose to stay here again.

Comfortable beds and attentive service made this an enjoyable place to stay. Handy central location. The only down side was I couldn't have breakfast in the hotel restaurant as it wasn't open when I left for my early morning meeting. Needed to hunt a place out in the rain.

I selected the hotel myself after speaking with a friend who had enjoyed her stay here. First impressions were that the staff were friendly and helpful. We arrived earlier than scheduled and were told that as our room was ready, we could take our bags up straight away. Which saved us having to carry them around Auckland. The room looked pleasant enough with twin beds. Once i worked out how to open the door and have light, things were better. I would have appreciated being told this at reception as we had to go back down to ask how to have light in the room. There were stains on the carpet in the hallway, the shower was not clean and we didn't enjoy our experience in the restaurant.

My experience staying at the Auckland City Hotel on Hobson Street was fairly average, it would have been better if my bathroom hadn't smelled like sewage. It was disgusting. I would have changed rooms if the smell had permeated throughout the rest of the room or if I had been staying for longer than two nights.

Dear Stephenie,

We do apologise for the experience you had during your stay here. The smell from the bath room is usually caused by air coming back up from the drainage when a seal is loose or the water seal is too low. If our maintenance team is not able to rectify it immediately, we would offer to move rooms whenever possible. Thank-you for your feedback, we hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the future.

Regards

The auckland city hotel is centrally located but the service is quiet poor. We stayed here for 2 nights after the first night when we went out the next morning and came back to the hotel we found that our room was still how we had left it in the morning. The hotel staff took too long to get the room cleaned and put it back it order for us. The breakfast too wasnt upto the mark. Hardly any options or variety in the buffet. Over all its clean but the heater barely worked. Service is poor.

Dear guest,

Thank-you for your feedback, we are always striving to improve our service standards and guest feedback provides an important avenue of communications for this.

Normally we aim to service all rooms by early afternoon, but on especially busy days there could be delays. However we can always prioritise to meet guest needs, so our guests can request rooms to be serviced by a certain time by informing front desk.

The restaurant is a separate business to our hotel, but we will forward your comments to them for their reference. We hope that we may have another opportunity to serve yo in the future.

Regards
Auckland City Hotel

We spent the final nights here on our mini "rugby road trip" following our team around the North Island. We found this hotel to be excellent value for money and while not in the city centre, we were short walking distances to the Skytower and the harbour. We left our hire car parked here and just walked everywhere. Having a little kitchenette was a bonus with a decent sized fridge and microwave to store our goodies collected along the road trip. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. We had no view other than the buildings behind us so kept our curtains closed. I don't think you would stay here for a view though. It was great to have 1 hour free wi-fi in our hotel room (not the lobby like most other hotels we stayed at in New Zealand) as this is the way we kept in touch with home. Staff were exceptionally friendly and efficient. We are going to stay here again for Lions tour.
