Bay of Islands Day Tour from Auckland
Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

This was on our must visit list but we were left feeling disappointed. As English.NT members why do we have to.pay $25? Also.we wanted a guided tour but couldn't unless we payed for cultural show too. Film was good but we felt there could be more exhibits about the wars that followed and perhaps a timeline to today and how relations are. All.the money seems to.have gone on the loos. What we saw of the maori display was not as good as in Roturua.

We have been to a few of these over the years, but this place was fantastic. We all loved the performance, my children were gobsmacked. We loved the humour of the performers and the beautiful singing and music. I would highly recommend this place.

This is a must visit for anyone remotely interested in the Maori. A useful video introduction is followed by a tour of the grounds with a Maori guide who answers all the questions you might have. The huge waka war canoe in amazing, as is the meeting house. But the best part was the show of Maori singing, dancing and culture. Not to be missed and all at a very reasonable price for so much.

If you want to experience the culture with a lovely view then a visit is a must. Book into the dance show it is well worth it and you are very close to the performers. They have a good personality and explain the history to their dances. The welcome greeting is proof enough. The guided tour provides a good insight about the whole of New Zealand. The guide had his own story and a good personality. You can spend as much time as you want there is no rush to leave the area.

Our guide was Dinnese Robinson (i hope i spelt that right!) She was an amazing guide who had a very bubbly personality and shared with you her knowledge of her Maori ancestry. This was a powerful insight, especially on the grounds of such a sacred sight. Mum and Dad had a good time to :) My father really enjoyed learning about how Maori ancestors made canoes. Dinnese answered all our questions and was able to discuss everything we wanted to talk about.
The grounds were beautiful, definitely take your cameras! If you're lucky you will see some traditional Maori dancers!
