From Mangonui it takes about 2 hours, and at times it seemed like we would never get there, but once there it was so worth it. There is plenty of parking with 2 carparks and the views are outstanding. The walk to the lighthouse is pleasant with breathtaking views all around you. Information plaques are everywhere and it is very well done for overseas visitors and kiwis alike. The walk back to the carpark from the lighthouse is a little more taxing and if you are not used to do much walking you might find it hard going, but other than that this is a must do, especially if you are staying in Doubtless Bay or Kaitaia, as it is closer than anywhere else.

Cape Reinga is a stunning site. Closely related with the Aborigines of New Zealand, it tells the story of how people came to know of it. With a lighthouse for the iconic and a hill for the sporty, it proves to be a truly amazing place. Overall, it was a breathtaking experience.

A long and unravelling journey, but so worth the drive. The walk to the lighthouse isn't long to do, and the views of the coast, sea, and surrounding sand dunes in the distance make the walk so much more surreal. A must do drive if you are in Auckland, and you need something to do?

So very beautiful once you get there. The pictures are very deceiving, Didn't know that you needed to walk so far to get to the lighthouse. But it is well worth it. The coming together of the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea was spectacular. Got to see the start of the 90 mile beach which is actually a beach that you can drive on. We took the road instead of the beach but enjoyed that. It was sunny but the breeze made it really nice. A camera is a must, should have brought the water with us but forgot it in the car.

We visited Cape Reinga Lighthouse at the tip of New Zealand on a very sunny day and we were overawed by the beauty and spectacular scenery where the Pacific Ocean meets the Tasman Sea. It is easy to comprehend the significance this location holds for the Maori people.
The access pathway is easy walking and the information plaques describing the Maori customs are really informative. The toilet facilities were spotlessly clean and entry is free.
We would happily pay a nominal fee to visit this historic and scenic reserve.
It is worth the 90km drive into the Cape.
