We bought a deal for $69 included 2 amuse-bouche, 2 mains and a bottle of wine. Always wanted to try this place so that was a good occasion.
The service was a bit slow, we had the bottle of wine and we waited for about 10-15mins for the amuse-bouche... then we ordered some bread some the entreem, with the main.
The main was good, i had the duck breast nicely cooked but there was only 2 little pieces iwth some side apple salad. My partner ordered the beef and said it was nice too iwth a side of vege. The vege were brocoly and bean with olives...
So far the dinner was good.
I obviously ordered a dessert, took the apple crumble. Decoration was very interesting but i was very dissapointed of the apple crumble. It was a tart apple crumble... the crumble was crushed peanuts and the apples was that nice.... it came with a small rhubard and cinnamon donuts that was very good and custard ice cream.
In overall the dinner was good but was really dissapointed of the dessert.

Lovely restaurant. A well run place with good staff and a seasonally adjusted, ever changing menu. Not to the point that there isn't any consistency but as to avoid boredom with the menu.
Portion size, flavour/seasoning and presentation are all above average.

I eat at Bowmans 2-3 times per year as we hold a work function in the private room at the back. It is always a pleasure. The service is efficient and friendly, value for money far exceeds other private dining options in Auckland and the food is wonderful. On the latest occasion, I had the prok belly starter, followed by baked snapper and finishing with the Valhrona chocolate dessert plate. The latter is always slightly different but always absolutely superb. I think Bowmans is hard to beat for this sort of function. I have eaten in the main restaurant a few times too, and not been disappointed

Having made our booking for Saturday evening on the www, spouse and self were impressd when Bowmans phoned to confirm and advised that the menu on the www had changed. Top marks to rhem.
We were the second couple to arrive but by 8pm there was not an empty seat which says a lot for Bowmans as there are a number of competitors not too far away in Mt Eden village.
Top marks also for agreeing to provide the spouse with scallops as a main rather than an entre for this had been refused us a few weeks ago when travelling elsewhere. Spouse enjoyed her main and I found the fish on the specials board to be very nice and well presented. The wine list is lengthy with many names unknown to me as am not a wine gourmet. Destiny Wines of Waiheke wasn't there and 'by the glass 'was very limited. Nevertheless, we enjoyed what we ordered but have no idea now what it was except that it was from a Waiheke vineyard - at $10 p.g. which isn't out-of-the-way these days.
Bowman's doesn't pretend to be low cost and neither should it do so for service and food was excellent. $145 for 2 x mains, 1 x spring salad, 2 x desserts, 2 x glasses wine, 1 x cognac. One minor gripe was the spring salad which comprised a bowl of lettuce with 4 x cocktail tomatoes and about 8 x croutons. As this created a talking point we passed a "not impressed" comment to the most helpful waitress and decided that overall the meal and Bowmans was great.

We have just spent a couple of nights in Auckland and on our first night, found this unpretentious little bistro in Mount Eden Rd. We were blown away with the quality of the food and the excellence of the service to such a degree that we also ate there on our second night! Between the two nights, we sampled the chef's taster platter, sirloin steak, scallops, roast duck breast and duck confit, snapper fillets and roasted baby artichokes, all of which were second to none. When we arrived on the second evening they were catering for three pre Christmas parties as well as casual diners like ourselves and despite the fact that they were so busy, the service was as good as it had been the previous evening. We have eaten in many Michelin starred restaurants in the UK & Europe and we are of the opinion that, if this restaurant was on the other side of the world, it would be worthy of a Michelin star. If you are ever up in Auckland we would highly recommend this restaurant to you.
