“Cheap and tasty”
Reviewed January 23, 2014 via mobile

This is for the Barrack St cnr Wellington St store. Both the sushi and the cooked dishes are fresh and tasty, and quite cheap.

“Love this place!”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

I love this place so much! The food here is REAL value. You can get a decent feed from $5-$9. And everything is made fresh! My favorite dish is their karaage which comes with a salad, miso and rice. It is the best, freshest Karaage you will find here in Perth. Their ramen dishes are also absolutely amazing! And the variety feels like its endless.

You see people eating here from all cultures and walks of life, from office workers on break coming in for quick take away to students coming in for a relaxing lunch, this place does it all!

It is always pretty busy and once you've eaten here you'll understand why.

I have honestly never had a bad meal here and if i'm ever hungry and near by this is the place i go to.

“Really inedible, barely lukewarm fatty chicken”
Reviewed January 14, 2014 via mobile

Taka has a good range on its menu, lots of seating, condiments, bathrooms and take Eftpos (min $10). Orders are taken at the counter and you are given a buzzer that goes off when your food is ready. Everything was clean and well stocked. I ordered the chicken katsu, it came with miso, rice, pickles and thinly sliced raw cabbage. The chicken must have been cooked far earlier in the day, or week, and then left going very cold in the Bain Marie. The chicken coating was tasteless and greasy, the chicken was very fatty, grey and I made it through two pieces only. The mouth feel of the chicken was appalling, the near-cold temperature alone was enough to put me off, aside from the fat. Admittedly, for $7.80 you can't expect too much, but 'edible' is a minimum requirement I think. The quality of the meat at this price isn't going to be amazing, I appreciate that, but it would have been more appetising if at least served warm. I didn't feel any passion or interest in the production of the food, and left 80% uneaten/uneatable.

Freshly cooked food for a cheap price. The wait can be long sometimes, especially during lunch. But the food is always nice

“Slightly Overrated, but good Genmaicha & Huge Portions”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

After reading all the rave reviews on TripAdvisor and passing by TAKA Japanese Cuisine on multiple occasions (the restaurant is always packed and full of people), I decided to give it a try.

Don't expect much of an atmosphere here. It's pretty much canteen-style with very few decorations. The food arrived very quickly and the portions were very big. There was a free Genmaicha (玄米茶) dispenser as well which was excellent.

I ordered the Miso Tonkatsu Don, it was pretty average - fried pork chops with home-made miso sauce smothered on top. The Tonkatsu was a bit too fatty for my liking and the fried batter was too thick. Genmaicha (aka Brown Rice Tea) was very fragrant and helped to cut down on the greasiness of the Tonkatsu.

There was also the Beef Teriyaki (was it??) Don which had pickles on the side. Found it strange that it was meant to be Japanese cuisine because the pickles were alike to the kind you would find in Sichuan (China) and the beef tasted really "Chinese-style" as well.

The chefs weren't Japanese as well I guess. Most of them looked Thai or Vietnamese.

Although TAKA isn't somewhere to get authentic Japanese cuisine, it certainly is value for money considering how you get stuffed to the gills after a simple meal approx A$5~8 (a rare find in Perth, or Australia as a whole for that matter).
