My partner and I found a Groupon for this little gem offering the five course Manjimup Truffle Degustation at half price so we decided to make this our anniversary dinner. Arriving at the restaurant we were greeted by our waitress who offered us a drink at the bar to start with which was fantastic as we got to try these Japanese style noodles that were quite palatable and got the ball rolling on the taste sensations to come. On being seated, our waitress took us over the menu where we opted to upgrade to the pre-selected, matched wines on offer - all of which complimented their dish delightfully. The first course was a creamed 11 vegetable soup enhanced with fresh herbs grated black truffle. Deceptively the soup was much thinner than I would have expected and tasted like heaven. This also went well with the fresh bread, butter and Hawaiian Black Lava salt. If plate licking in a fine dining restaurant was acceptable, it would have happened! Next we tried the citrus cured Tasmanian salmon with pickled black truffle and carrot, dijonnaise and a blue swimmer crab and mascarpone salad. By far the meal of the evening which certainly had all my taste buds dancing and vying the next mouthful. Luckily for me, my partner is not fond of salmon so while he did his best to finish his plate, I got the little bit he left over!! We had decided to upgrade from the braised beef cheeks to the Wagyu beef after being advised it had a marble score of 5. This was by far the best cooked steak I have ever eaten, exquisitely complemented by a red wine sauce, truffle mash potato and seasonal vegetable. The meat literally melted in your mouth. We were also given a complimentary shaving of truffle in celebration of our anniversary, which I think was a very personable touch. Next was the truffled brie cheese with fig terrine and crackers, a very creamy dish, creatively presented and finally to finish a chocolate and banana mousse cake with honeycomb crumbs and truffle ice cream.
Overall we were both very impressed with the service, quality of the food, atmosphere of the restaurant and the experience we had. Highly recommended to anyone that loves fine food and maybe isn't on a budget. The restaurant is intimate and suitable for couples and small groups.
