“Not impressed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2011

We had low expectations from reading reviews and were prepared for an expensive evening and not so great food.

The tempura, coated in a light, fluffy batter was delicious to start with. Then it all went downhill from there.

My minute portion of salmon was small, thin and crispy, full of oil. My partner's was plump and juicy (did they run out and give me the leftovers??). The beef and chicken were salty and the rice gluggy, though the miso soup was very pleasant.

The chef was entertaining in his tricks and the saving grace for the evening was him being able to write messages to us in salt on the hotplate....he created a birthday cake out of salt and set it on fire for the birthday boy. The chef flicking prawn heads into guests mouths was also fun to watch.

I would go again for the entertaining experience if they reviewed their menus and did a bit of taste testing themselves prior to serving guests.

“Nice Teppen Yaki”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2011

Very nice restaurant. I went on a quiet night, so had 3 staff at my request.

Food was excellent, and everyone was friendly. The drinks service needed some work; had to continually ask for drinks but they responded quickly.

A little bit overpriced for Teppen Yaki, but overall worth checking out.

We were first in and not much of a "Teppenyaki" show. We also seemed to be chased off the table very early.

Decor is late 80s/90s original. Tacky.

In the end it was the carpet in the chef's area that was grease ridden, the left over bits on the chef floor and the "oily smell" that ruined it.

Wouldn't go again until they do a refit.
