“Never disappoints”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

We have been dining at Matilda Bay on and off for 20 years and always have a wonderful time. The views are magnificent, the service excellent and the food is fabulous. 3 of us were there for dinner recently on a Tuesday evening and were surprised to see how busy it was, which I think goes to show how popular it is.
I had the king fish entree which was cured in citrus juice and served with bean sprouts and grapefruit, and was to die for! We all had steak for our main course and I believe that the steak is as good as the best steak I've had anywhere. We had the "chips" as a side dish were are served in a cute little basket and paper, as well as a salad. I had the chocolate dessert which was a combination of a warm chocolate brownie, a smear of smooth chocolate mousse and a brittle chocolate basket; the combination of temperatures and textures was divine.
It was an expensive evening but thoroughly enjoyable.

“Beautiful Views”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

Had dinner here this Week. Chose from the set menu, you have a choice of 3 for the entrée, main and dessert. I thought this was reasonably priced. Food was delicious. Highlight was the pear and rhubarb crumble with cinnamon ice-cream. View was amazing, service impeccable.

“Ripped off”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Our daughter had her wedding reception here earlier this year, while the food was good and the setting stunning we couldn't believe the mark up on not only the wine but all the drinks!! It was highway robbery!!!!!! They're making really good money on the venue and the food while do they have to shaft you on the drinks?!?

“$5 per person for...tap water!”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

The best thing about the restaurant is the location - right on the shore of Matilda Bay - so, as you dine, you have a nice view of the water and the yachts and of course, of the city in the distance.

The prices are a little steep, especially when it comes to wine. The cheapest bottle of red will cost you $60. What is good, however, is that they offer a couple of white and red wines for purchase in 375ml carafes.

We had dinner on a Friday night, so the restaurant wasn't full. The entree of coconut crusted prawns came out very quickly. The prawns were fresh, but the taste did not blow us away. For mains (after waiting 45minutes) we had the double roasted half duck and cone bay barramundi. The duck breast melted in the mouth, skin was crispy, but the leg was too dry. The sauce it came with and the eggplant puree added a little depth to the dish, but the small fondant potato was absolutely tastless. Barramundi was well cooked with crispy skin. Sweet peas and baby cos provided sweetness to the dish. We also ordered a green salad and it came out in a tiny bowl. What we didn't order were the fried potatoes - they turned up on the table with no explanation from the waiter - so we thought they were part of the main dish. To our surprise, we were later charged $10 for them. Was this done deliberately??? Another unpleasant surprise was the $5 per person bill for ordinary water!

Overall, thumbs up for the ambience and the atmosphere and very efficient wait staff, but the hidden charges and generally overpriced wines and items on the menu ensured we will not be back.

We Thank you for taking the time to write regarding your recent restaurant experience we appreciate your feedback, however I would like to clarify a couple of the points raised. As well as offering tap water at no charge we offer unlimited bottled sparkling and still water at a cost of $5.00 per person. The options would have been offered on your arrival and the cost for bottled water is stated in the beverage menu not hidden as stated

With regard the wine list we offer over 200 wines with a large selection of wines in each section between $50 and $55.

Our curren menu prices can be viewed in advance on our web site.

Regards
Warwick Lavis

“Lovely meal at the waters edge.”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

We had a wonderful seafood dinner at this lovely spot for our anniversary dinner. The serving staff was very attentive, but not intrusive. The wine selection was interesting with good variety by the glass and the food was delectable. We had the "seafood platter for one" with a couple of entrees and that was plenty of food for the both of us. Even though it was dark outside at 7pm, there was a most pleasant view over the yacht harbor. This was a most pleasant evening and a memorable meal.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent dining experience. Matilda Bay Restaurant and Function Centre has a privileged position on the river and our aim is always to give food and service that reflects that. As operators of the restaurant since 1984 we recognise that it is important to remain relevant and up to date with food, service and decor. As they say you are only as good as your last meal.
