I shared a nine course degustation with my family a few nights ago at Dear Friends and what a disappointment it was. The staff were unfriendly, the menu pretentious and the decor outdated. To tell of the embarrassment that came one course after another would be equally embarrassing. the staff had no idea what they were doing it was like watching a cast of actors playing fine dining. The wine was good, but the sommelier was rude poured the tiniest tasting glasses. The chef serves chewy meat, over salted food and had no creativity when it comes to vegetarian options. To top it off the toilets were leaky leaving a massive puddle in the bathroom all night!! Overall don't even bother, its not worth the petrol money to drive out there.

my wife and I went on Saturday night which is the degustation menu. We had been there nearly 20 years previously.
Enjoyed the experience then as we did on this occassion ,
Excellent blend of food and spices. Of course the portions are small that is the idea of degustation..sample sample sample.
Service and staff were well versed in what the dishes contained and were very attentive to making sure the table was cleared and drinks were up to date.
Wine list is one of the best I have seen for that size restaurant.
overall a good eating experience.
would we make this venue a regular dining spot..probable not. Could not afford to eat the rest of the week at $115 pp.
ladies toilet plumbing needs attention, as does back car park, this was just a paddock with falling tree limbs and quite dark.

We dined at Dear Friends on a Saturday night, which meant we had their Degustation Menu with matching wines (no a la carte option on Saturday night).
The food was good overall - the chicken course (chicken terrine with, I think, homemade herb tofu and rockmelon ice-cream) was a bit average, and the dessert (a frozen banana mouse) was a little bit too sweet, but all the others were delicious. The highlight was a slow cooked egg with herbs and crispy pancetta - such a flavour explosion.
Each course is very small, but over the nine courses it was just enough. If you are a big eater or are used to giant pub meals, then the degustation option is probably not for you.
The matched wines were a great selection of local and international sparkling, white and reds.
Service staff were friendly, though seemed a little stressed and busy.
The decor is very odd - it's an old house on acreage, and feels as though it has been dropped in from the 70's. I was a bit disappointed to find that the dining room was all enclosed, no view of the vineyards next door which was a bit of a pity.

However, I would recommend it as an enjoyable experience - it feels like time travelling to another time and place, with tasty little canape sized morsels to enjoy along the way.

Hmmm , I had such high hopes but left disappointed.
The food was nice , but nothing spectacular . We did the degustation - 9 courses with matching wines , we left hungry , the portion sizes were ridiculously small and it was terribly expensive . On a plus side - the service was excellent , with good knowledge on wine .

This is a degustation menu, so make sure you are very hungry before going here as I could barely move after leaving here! The food was fantastic, the service was incredible & the decor inside the restaurant was spectacular. Will definitely be back here.
