“Reasonable and clean”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

For Perth accommodation it is reasonably priced for a private room. Noisy, yes, but earplugs take care of that. What concerned me was that there were people walking past my window and I had no privacy without having to draw the curtains and having to turn the light on.
The bed was exceptionally comfortable, the pillows not so, but a folded up towel was a great substitute.

The facilities were clean, the showers pathetic though, I have showered in water-saving facilities before and they were far more adequate than this.

Check in was kept to a minimum without any orientation of the general layout given - by chance I found a flyer pinned on a notice board opposite the laundry which explained where which facilities could be found. Staff at the check-in were very helpful when I was faced with an 'emergency' and required assistance.
The kitchen was adequate, the dining room had the charm of a soup kitchen though.

Location was convenient, with good access to public transport.

Overall it was an ok stay, I would choose to stay there again.

First of all, if you are a light sleeper this is not the place for you. This hostel is literally almost on the rain track, and a busy rail track at that with trains operating about 20 hours a day! You can get used to it, as we did but this could make a lot of people unhappy. The staff were alright, the internet is standard and apart from the railway this YHA is in a good location walking distance from the city and Northbridge. The Kitchen is split into 4 smaller kitchens on the same floor with one large dining area which I thought was disgusting! The kitchens themselves are alright, I didn’t use them much through choice. The hostel dorms are small and dated, I stayed in 2 while I was there and they were both the same. There are quite a few areas to sit in, however I did find this hotel was not as social as others I stayed in. There are quite a few long term residents who keep to themselves. The bar prices were reasonable and closes around 12pm I think.

Very expensive for a YHA, we stayed for one night then moved to a different one in the city. Quite a big place, service was awfully slow when we arrived, we were waiting ages. The dorms were decent enough, good conditioned and modern furnishings. Some entertaining available like pool tables and various games. Just don't feel it warranted such a positive review, but still there's nothing majorly bad about it. As I said, decent enough.

We stayed at Perth YHA for 5 nights in a 4 bed female dorm. The room is clean with lockers provided. Bathrooms are clean too. The good location is definitely within walking distance to everywhere. The close proximity to the train station can be noisy at night and your sleep may be disturbed if you are a light sleeper. However, the staff is friendly and helpful with their service. The kitchen and dinning area is huge and spacious. Overall it is a very good hostel and our stay was pleasant.

There is a bar within the building which is nice to hang out for some simple food and drinks if you don't feel like walking out of the hostel.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the YHA Perth City for two nights and the service was really good. The staff is really friendly and help us with activities and orientation. We had a private room and bathroom and everything was clean. Normally, I have a lot of difficulty to sleep in backpackers hostel because of the noise. That was not the case in this hostel. Even if the train pass just behind the hostel, we couldn't ear anything. The only thing I would have like is a place for parking. The number of parking space is very limited.

Our first landing in Aus... Reasonably clean, sheets crisp and spotless, bathroom spotless. (We took one of the private doubles with private bathroom at the back). The staff are friendly and very helpful and the facilities good. What does stand out is that it does what it says - Perth City - it's within 5 mins walk of the bus and railway stations and, indeed the CBD.

The breakfast in the cafe down below is excellent, the only downer is that it's slightly grubby.

As seniors, we worried about mixing in but no problem - all ages and nationalities, had a great time.

Will we be back in a couple of years time? Definitely!

Whilst there, take the quick and efficient train to Freo. Freo is an absolute delight. (The food stalls in Perth Station concourse do reasonably priced, fantastic sandwiches and cakes). The museums there are excellent. Also worth a trip to Whiteman Park - take a trip on the Bennett Brook Railway out into the bush. Wild roos, birds of all kinds etc

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are next to the railway line. There is some noise but it didn't bother us...
