The Emperor's Crown
BAD::
1. No reply to email. I sent them an email regarding late check out and never got a reply.
2. Cash only. The lady said she can't take money from credit card and took all my cash for d stay in advance.
3. 4 shared became 5. I booked a 4 shared but was given 5 without any option.
5. Stinky rooms. Because of the long timers I'd say.
6. Only 4 cupboards in a room of 5. Being the last person I didn't get a locker.
7. No locks available so bring your own or buy. These are not safe lockers. Just a cup board with an option of locking with pad lock.
8. Occupied by long termers as well
9. The area is a bit lonely but not far from the city centre.
10. Doors are designed to be banged even though the guests were considerate.
11. Loud music from their drinking area will not allow you to sleep until 10:30 PM.  And if you close the windows, suffocation will not let you sleep.
12. They sell used towels for 5$.

GOOD::
1. They provide free linen. Guests r not allowed to use their own linen. They promise no bed bugs.
2. Bathrooms and toilets are clean
3. Cooking facility is good
4. Good staff but they are bound by their policy.

I'm writing this review from my bed in this hostel.
If you think why so many good reviews and just few bad ones. Because the bad ones always come from true reviewers without being asked to leave a review.

Room Tip: You can't so try to avoid this place.

I chose this hostel on the basis of it's ratings position on TripAdvisor. I was a little disappointed by the atmosphere however (or lack of it). The dining area needs to be improved so that you can eat around a table rather than facing the wall, and they need to get some warmer blankets for the beds.

The worst thing in my opinion was the fact that the hostel kitchen was used as a commercial kitchen by the cafe next door. It was always cleaned afterwards and the staff were friendly, but when they were cooking they took the entire kitchen over (although this never happened in the evening).

The wifi is very poor value, I know you don't tend to get free wifi in WA but Global Gossip would at least be better than paying $6 for 2 hours.

Overall it was a clean, ok hostel.

I spent 4 months in this hostel. I was not planning to stay in Perth for a long time and it’s pretty hard to find an apartment especially in the city. 2 months is always too short to stay in a share house in Perth (even suburb but it depends where you are looking for).

So I must stay in backpacker. I have been in 2 hostels in Perth:. Emperor’s crown and globe backpacker. The first for 4 months and the second for 6 nights. The Emperor’s Crown is more expensive than a few others backpackers but it’s pretty better!

It’s a very clean and modern backpacker. The kitchen is very clean and the bathroom is very clean (perfect shower! ). For the bedroom, you got a large locker and a good bed. The staff is helpful and all right. The guests in the backpacker are generally “normal” and friendly.

Unfortunately, you don’t have this in all backpacker.

And the most important : When you are working you like that it is quiet when it must be and busy when it needs to be ! I really recommend you this hostel !!!!

Having travelled for quite some time, my boyfriend and I arrived in Perth and were shocked to realise how busy and expensive the city is in terms of accommodation. After a scary first night (we couldn’t find anywhere to stay and ended up paying for a hotel– that will teach us for leaving things to the last minute!), we managed to book into the Emperor’s Crown for a few days after it was suggested to us by a friend.

The staff were informative and on hand and the facilities are good, with communal court yards, big extensive kitchen, designated food cubby holes, tv room and internet area a. It’s on the edge of Northbridge and just minutes from the city, so we were able to find our way round really quickly.

In addition to this, the guests who stay there on the whole are lovely and you definitely get a community atmosphere, which I haven’t really found anywhere else before. A big hit for us!!!

Room Tip: If you're a couple pay that little bit extra for a Private Double with en-suite!

Great place to stay and to meet a lot of backpackers, nice service. Could do with better supplies in the kitchen.

Stayed here for a while and I have to say it was definitely the best hostel I stayed at while in Perth. Clean, tidy and lovely staff and people.

Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about Perth, and if they didn't know the answer to a question they found out the answer. Location is brilliant, 5 minutes walk from city centre.

Stayed in a dorm and a double room while I was here. The double room is definitely worth the extra cost, simple and basic but has everything you need. Nothing wrong with the dorms but it was nice to have a bit of privacy.

Went to Margaret River after this and stayed in their hostel down there which was also very good.

All in all hard to fault!
